He's just like Eze: Spurs have "made some calls" to sign £60m Arsenal fan

Over the last couple of years, Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with numerous top-level forwards who constantly produced the goods during their time at the club.

Harry Kane rose through the youth levels in North London, eventually making over 400 appearances for the Lilywhites – netting 280 goals – the highest individual tally in their history.

However, he would depart the side back in the summer of 2023, leaving in a £82m deal to join German outfit Bayern Munich – with his legacy forever intact despite his departure.

Heung-min Son is another who has moved on to pastures new, joining LAFC this summer, ending his decade spell in the capital, which saw him and Kane break the record for the most combined goals between two players in Premier League history (47).

Losing such talents makes the job of replacing them a near-impossible one, but new boss Thomas Frank continues to hunt for added reinforcements ahead of his first season at the helm.

The latest on Spurs’ hunt for new attackers this summer

Savinho has been one of Spurs’ biggest targets over the last few weeks, with the hierarchy even submitting a £60m bid to try and land the Manchester City winger.

Such an offer was rejected, with further talks being held, but it now seems unlikely the 21-year-old will move to North London, with Pep Guardiola’s side wanting to keep hold of him beyond Monday’s deadline.

However, another name has entered the mix over recent days, with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo reemerging on their shortlist, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

He recently claimed that the Lilywhites have “made some calls” to the Cherries over a deal for the Ghanaian, who penned a new contract until 2030 earlier this summer.

Romano also stated Frank’s side have stepped up their interest in the “last 24 hours”, but could have to fork out as much as £60m for the 25-year-old, who’s already scored twice in 2025/26.

Why Spurs’ latest target is just like Eze

Spurs’ hunt for a new forward has been a summer-long process, with numerous players constantly on their radar – including Eberechi Eze before his move to boyhood club, Arsenal.

The Lilywhites held constant discussions with Crystal Palace over a deal to land the England international – leading to terms being agreed between the two sides.

However, given Spurs’ inability to close other deals this summer, it was a surprise to no one to see a deal fail to cross the line, with the Lilywhites’ North London rivals swooping in at the 11th hour.

It was confirmed last weekend that the 27-year-old had joined Mikel Arteta’s side for a fee in the region of £67.5m, including add-ons, subsequently putting a huge dent in Frank’s ambitions of improving his front line.

Such a blow could be softened, especially if a deal for Semenyo gets completed before Monday’s transfer deadline, with the forward possessing numerous similarities to Eze.

He’s spent the last two and a half years at the Vitality, joining the Cherries from Championship side Bristol City – just as Eze did, when he linked up with the Eagles from QPR back in the summer of 2020.

However, despite their similarities, Semenyo, who’s also an Arsenal fan, managed to outperform him in numerous key areas last campaign – potentially offering Frank a versatile option across his front line in 2025/26.

The Ghanaian achieved a higher shot-on-target accuracy rate in the Premier League last season, a tally that could provide the new boss with the added ammunition he’s been craving within the final third.

Semenyo’s goalscoring ability is one thing, but he’s also showcased his superb technique to glide past the opposition – completing more take-ons than Eze, whilst also making over double the number of carries into the opposition box per 90.

Such numbers would allow him to be a hit with the supporters, able to create an opportunity for himself out of nothing, before firing home and bolstering the side’s already potent attack.

However, he’s also able to be a provider, notching more passes into the opposition box per 90, with such a tally able to allow the likes of Richarlison the chance to build on their own impressive start to 2025/26.

£60m would be a huge sum spent on a new attacker, but it’s one that could prove to be a bargain if the forward can take his game to the next level in North London.

Missing out on Eze’s signature, especially to their main rivals, would have been a bitter blow, but it could prove to be a blessing in disguise if a deal can be reached for Semenyo.

How Chelsea feel with Spurs hijacking Simons deal after broken Leipzig pact

Chelsea have missed out on a deal for long-time target Xavi Simons, with Tottenham hijacking their RB Leipzig deal in a blow for Enzo Maresca.

At one stage, it seemed like only a matter of time before BlueCo would put pen to paper on a deal for the Dutchman.

Some reports suggested that Chelsea had reached a full agreement for Simons, but that information turned out to be wide of the mark, with Simons forced to wait for weeks after agreeing personal terms with Maresca’s side.

Chelsea’s pursuit of the 22-year-old, who was a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before switching to PSG in his youth, was hampered by their need to sell players and make room in their squad.

Money was no object, considering the Blues have done extremely well in terms of net spend – raising over £300 million in player sales to combat around £280 million spent on transfers.

However, their pact with UEFA after being fined for breaching FFP dictates that Chelsea must sell players from their Conference League squad last season to ensure they can register new signings for the Champions League this term.

Enzo Maresca calling £60m star with Chelsea ready to triple his salary

The Blues boss is personally contacting him.

ByEmilio Galantini Aug 28, 2025

While Chelsea were attempting to agree exit deals for the likes of Christopher Nkunku (who’s now joined AC Milan) and Nicolas Jackson, Simons was left in limbo, and this gave Tottenham an opportunity to pounce.

Thomas Frank’s side were bereft of playmakers, following James Maddison’s ACL rupture and a knee injury to Dejan Kulusevski earlier this year, with Spurs also missing out on Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White this window in quite embarrassing fashion.

Chelsea’s London rivals needed to make a statement of intent, and have now done so by stealing Simons from under BlueCo’s nose.

Following overnight talks, Tottenham reached an agreement to sign the ex-PSG sensation for £52 million, with Simons completing his medical on Thursday and signing a potential seven-year contract.

How Chelsea feel as Tottenham hijack their deal for Xavi Simons

As per journalist Simon Phillips, backing up information from another source on his live blog [Thursday, 14:22pm), Chelsea have been left “unhappy” by these developments and thought they already had a verbal agreement with Leipzig.

Leipzig were said to have moved the goalposts, which allowed Spurs to swoop in and strike a deal for the Netherlands international despite lengthy negotiations with Chelsea.

Now, with just days until the deadline, Chelsea are forced to go back to square one in pursuit of a new playmaker, with Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez potentially set to take centre-stage.

Chelsea are prepared to bid around £50 million for Lopez, according to reports in Spain, and it is believed that the west Londoners are also ready to nearly triple the player’s salary by offering him a contract worth £250,000-per-week (Sport).

Maresca has personally phoned the 22-year-old as well (Sport), so this may definitely be one to keep an eye on.

'The excitement overcomes me' – Alexis Sanchez explains why he celebrated scoring for Sevilla against former club Barcelona in thumping win

Alexis Sanchez admitted the 'excitement overcomes me' as he helped Sevilla dismantle a poor Barcelona side at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

  • Sanchez celebrated against Barca

According to Barca Universal, Sevilla forward Sanchez has explained why he celebrated after scoring against his former club Barcelona in their stunning 4-1 La Liga victory on Sunday, admitting that the emotion of the moment "overcomes me". The Chilean international had previously stated he would not celebrate if he found the net against the Catalan club, but broke that promise after converting a 13th-minute penalty to open the scoring.

What Sanchez said about his celebration

Speaking after the match, Alexis clarified that his actions were driven by the heat of the moment rather than any disrespect towards his old side, for whom he still holds a great affection. "I had said I wouldn’t celebrate, but sometimes the excitement overcomes me, and the desire drives me to do so," Sanchez said, according to Zona Mixta. "In truth, I hold a great deal of love for Barcelona."

  • Sanchez opens scoring in dominant Sevilla performance

The veteran forward set the tone for a memorable night at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, calmly dispatching a penalty to give his side an early lead. The spot-kick was awarded after a VAR review, which judged that Ronald Araujo had fouled Isaac Romero inside the box. Sanchez's opener was the catalyst for a dominant display from Sevilla, who overwhelmed the reigning champions with their aggressive and energetic style of play.

  • Barcelona's defensive collapse at the Pizjuan

The defeat was a disastrous result for Barcelona, who were defensively frail throughout the contest. After Sanchez's penalty, further goals from Isaac Romero, Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams sealed the emphatic win for Sevilla. A late consolation goal from Marcus Rashford did little to mask a poor performance from Hansi Flick's team, who were outplayed and outfought, ending the match with just 39% possession despite having more shots than their opponents.

New Silva: Man City plot shock move to sign £65m England international

Manchester City had the unenviable task this summer of replacing Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian left as a legend of the club and of the Premier League, having won the top flight six times, as well as the Champions League in City’s famous treble win of 2022/23.

Of course, when the Belgian was at the peak of his powers, he had the baton passed to him from David Silva. Another legend at the Etihad Stadium, Silva played 144 times with De Bruyne, before departing the club for his native Spain to return to La Liga.

Well, now City could be back in the market for a playmaking genius, who could certainly be seen as their new Silva.

The state of play at Manchester City

With days left of the summer transfer window, City could still plot a late move following their humbling 2-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

Real Madrid star Rodrygo is one name constantly linked with a move to East Manchester.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

However, he is not the only Los Blancos star who could move to City.

Remarkably, according to Caught Offside, Pep Guardiola’s side are said to be ‘keeping a close eye’ on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Liverpool star only moved to the Spanish capital this summer, but after being dropped in favour of Dani Carvajal, questions about his future have already been raised.

That has led reports to suggest that the Citizens could launch a ‘sensational bid’ as early as January for a player valued at £65m, via Transfermarkt.

Why Alexnader-Arnold would be a good signing

It is fair to say that Alexander-Arnold would return to the Premier League with an incredible reputation. Manchester United legend Gary Neville once said he has the potential to become “the best right-back the world has ever produced”, and he certainly shone for Liverpool.

In 354 appearances for his boyhood club, the England international scored 23 goals and amassed an incredible tally of 92 assists, with passes such as this one back in 2023, a regular occurrence. He helped the Reds to two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

For a right-back to so regularly create chances to the level Alexander-Arnold did, you have to be a “maestro”, as Statman Dave once described him.

There were seven Premier League seasons where he played more than 20 games, and in four of them, he hit double figures for assists.

City’s creative genius before De Bruyne was, of course, Silva. The Spaniard is City’s “greatest ever player” according to Jamie Carragher, and even has a statue outside of the Etihad Stadium paying homage to his genius.

The former Valencia midfielder pulled on that famous Blue shirt 436 times, scoring 77 goals and assisting 136 times on top of that. He was capable of operating all over the pitch in attacking areas, but did his best work as a number 10.

It is easy to see how Alexander-Arnold, who earned £180k per week at Anfield, could become City’s new Silva.

Firstly, this would be a signing from La Liga, and whilst he is more of a known quantity to Citizens fans than Silva may have been, creative signings from the Spanish top flight have tended to work well for them.

Both players have excellent creative numbers behind them, too. Alexander-Arnold’s record at Liverpool was sensational, and he already has two assists for Madrid. As for Silva, he had 39 assists to his name for Valencia before moving to City in 2010.

Of course, the key difference is the position, with the Los Blancos man playing at right-back rather than in midfield. Yet, there has been talk that he should move centrally, and he even began to invert into midfield under Jurgen Klopp, a role Carragher said was “almost perfect for him” back in 2023.

Whatever plans Guardiola hatches for Alexander-Arnold if he moves to City, he will look to get the best out of him creatively.

With the sort of influence he can have in the final third, his potential role in midfield and the fact he’d be moving from Spain, this really could be the second coming of Silva.

£2.5m Leeds player now house-hunting to seal permanent Elland Road exit

Leeds United went through a mass amount of movement during the summer transfer window and could now be set to see another deal occur sooner rather than later.

Leeds United set to hunt for striker in January

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have arrived to offer Daniel Farke support through the middle as Leeds settle back into Premier League life, and all signs point towards a renewed push for firepower in January.

Speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed the Whites will need to seek out a regular goalscorer if they are to have a fighting chance of retaining their top-flight status.

“Obviously they were in the market for an attacking player right up until deadline day – Leeds have yet to score a goal in open play in the Premier League in three games.

“Nmecha has been leading the line in the first few games of season, while Calvert-Lewin came on and did quite well against Newcastle. If he can stay fit, he could prove to be a real asset for Leeds United, so there are options there for Daniel Farke’s team. It’s obvious they will need a regular goalscorer if they are to have any chance of staying up.”

Norwich City striker Josh Sargent continues to be linked with Leeds in a rumour that doesn’t appear to be close to going away anytime soon, albeit it remains to be seen if the Canaries are willing to part ways with the United States international.

However, in other news, Leeds may need to let a wantaway star depart the club permanently as he hunts for a new home in different surroundings.

Leeds star Isaac Schmidt seeks permanent Elland Road exit

Per BILD, relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds loanee Isaac Schmidt has revealed he wants a permanent move to Werder Bremen, and he has now taken the step of hunting for a home ahead of securing his next destination away from Elland Road.

Despite only joining from St Gallen last year in a deal worth £2.5 million and under contract until 2028, the Switzerland international featured only 14 times for the Whites last term and was second choice at right-back behind Jayden Bogle.

"Natural winner" touted to be next Leeds manager amid Farke "reservations"

It has now been revealed that a manager could be in line for a sensational return to the Premier League.

On his opening appearance for Werder Bremen, Schmidt struck a last-gasp equaliser in a 3-3 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, earning a Fotmob match rating of 7.7/10 despite only featuring for 14 minutes.

The Bundesliga outfit retain an option to purchase the 25-year-old for £2.5 million, and Schmidt has expressed his openness to staying,

With all parties on track to conduct an agreeable deal, it appears it is now only a matter of time before Schmidt becomes a permanent fixture at Weserstadion.

PSG left fuming over Bradley Barcola injury and accuse French national team of mismanagement' as feud with FFF intensifies after Ousmane Dembele & Desire Doue injuries

Ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, tensions are running high between Paris Saint-Germain and the French Football Federation (FFF) after Bradley Barcola suffered an injury. The Federation insisted in their statement that Barcola suffered an injury in the recent Champions League clash, much to the fury of Les Parisiens. The feud which ignited in September following injuries to Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue seems to have intensified.

Barcola injury reignites discord between France and PSG

This dispute adds to a series of long-standing tensions, particularly since the Dembele and Doue affairs in September. The tone has now escalated to the point of undermining relations between the two institutions.

Barcola, called up by Didier Deschamps for France's upcoming set of World Cup qualifiers, reported to Clairefontaine before having to withdraw. According to the FFF statement, the PSG winger is suffering from "a chronic injury to his right hamstring since the Parisian club's Champions League match against Atalanta Bergamo."

This explanation immediately provoked the anger of PSG. The club believes that this version is false and that the injury is unrelated to the European match. According to , the Parisian club's management had already expressed reservations about the player's call-up after an MRI scan carried out on the morning of the squad gathering.

AdvertisementAFPPSG respond with fury

The FFF's statement was very poorly received at the Parc des Princes. The club responded firmly on Monday with a statement that read: "Paris Saint-Germain was surprised to learn of the press release issued by the French Football Federation on Monday 6 October regarding Bradley Barcola's state of health. The information published in this press release does not correspond in any way to the medical information provided by the Paris Saint-Germain medical teams."

PSG officials believe the Federation made a mistake by mentioning a supposedly old injury, which would suggest mismanagement on their part.

Situation reaches boiling point between PSG and France

The publication of the statement has reawakened old grudges. Relations between the two sides had already become strained in September after Dembele and Doue were injured during the match against Ukraine. This time, Les Parisiens are accusing the FFF of violating medical confidentiality.

The club insists: "Medical confidentiality must be respected for the good of all parties." Internally, several voices believe that the Federation wanted to shift the blame for this injury, which deeply annoyed PSG's leaders.

Faced with controversy, the FFF sought to justify themselves, stating that their communication complies with standard practice, according to the French sports daily. They responded by emphasising that it "usually communicates the reason for forfeits, as clubs do."

In other words, the institution denies any intention to harm PSG and explains that they were simply following standard practice. However, it is precisely on this point that the disagreement persists, as the club claims that the injury was only noticed much later, during the match against Lille, when Barcola left the field in the 60th minute.

Deschamps calms things down

In this tense atmosphere, head coach Deschamps is trying to maintain a certain balance. According to reports, the coach could have kept Barcola in the squad, but chose to release him instead. The aim was to avoid aggravating his injury and get him back in top form for the next gathering in November, which is considered more decisive for qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

After Pino: Crystal Palace now in advanced talks to sign "intelligent" star

Despite already signing Yeremy Pino from Villarreal, Crystal Palace are now reportedly in advanced talks to sign another attacking reinforcement for Oliver Glasner.

Pino realises Premier League "dream"

Following the departure of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Crystal Palace swiftly swooped in to welcome Pino from Villarreal. Securing the talented winger in a deal worth around £21m, the Eagles will be desperately hoping that he has what it takes to fill Eze’s boots and become an instant hit among the fans at Selhurst Park.

After putting pen to paper, the 22-year-old quickly admitted that it’s a “dream” come true to be joining a Premier League side – telling the club’s official website: “Of course this motivates me. In the end, you have to continue the path the team has taken by coming here, winning titles, and my goal is to be in Europe.

“It’s very important for the club, for me as well. Doing well in Europe is a goal of mine, but also [to contribute] lots of goals, lots of assists, and for the team to be happy with me. A dream for me is to come to the Premier League at this historic club, being able to help the team with my game and my experience.”

Chairman Steve Parish also welcomed the new Crystal Palace star, saying: “It’s fantastic news that Yeremy – an exciting young talent, with already such an impressive record in domestic, European and international football – has chosen us as the next step in his career.”

After securing Pino’s signature, however, Palace are not done there. Reports are now suggesting that they’ve stepped up their pursuit to sign a talented Bundesliga star before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Crystal Palace in advanced talks to sign Baumgartner

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Crystal Palace are now in advanced talks to sign Christoph Baumgartner from RB Leipzig this week. The Austrian reportedly wants to complete the move and the Eagles are negotiating a loan deal with an option to buy the attacking midfielder at the end of the season.

At 26 years old, Baumgartner is a player who has featured at the very top of European football and would instantly offer Glasner some much-needed experience. After starting 18 out of 34 Bundesliga games last season, meanwhile, it’s a move that the midfielder himself arguably needs if he wants a permanent starting place.

That said, inconsistent game time hasn’t stood in the way of praise for the Leipzig man. Former Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl previously told reporters after signing the midfielder: “Christoph is quick, possesses a threat on goal and is a very intelligent player.

RB Leipzig's Christoph Baumgartner in action with Celtic's DaizenMaeda

“He can play with both feet and has an incredible shot. His skills and abilities lend another aspect to our game. Baumi is also a good guy: down-to-earth, eager to learn and ambitious.”
