Here come the IPL 2024 playoffs. It took a thriller on Saturday to decide which of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) or Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would complete the playoffs line-up, and till the very last league game – a washout in Guwahati last night – to know who would play whom exactly, but now we know. And it’s a completely different playoff line-up from last season, with none of 2023’s top four making the cut here.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) come into the first qualifier as table-toppers, the first time they’ve finished the league phase at No. 1. They finished three points clear of anyone else on the table, despite having their last two games washed out. Will they be refreshed, or rusty? If SRH are any example to go by, a break from the cricket is a good thing: they came in after a 10-day break – partly down to the schedule and partly down to the weather – and aced a chase of 215 on Sunday against Punjab Kings. Previous meeting: They’ve played each other only once this season, both team’s first game of IPL 2024. "Liverpool are reaching out for Giovanni Leoni; on the one hand, the news makes me immensely happy, but on the other, it makes me a little angry," Sacchi wrote. "Let me explain: I'm happy that an Italian player is receiving praise from a major club like Liverpool, but I'd like it to be AC Milan or Inter, Juve or Napoli competing for his transfer, and not a foreign club.

"I'm told: Italian teams don't have the same financial resources as English ones. That's very true, but I'd add: why hasn't the football product been exploited here like in England? Why is it so complicated to buy a €40 million defender for an Italian club, yet Liverpool doesn't even bother? We'll see if the deal goes through, but in any case, I feel like the Reds would make a great move by securing this boy, whom I followed with curiosity and interest in the second half of last season."

  While the Italiy international did not name any individual in his statement, the individual he referred to as "someone" is surely Luis Enrique, as the PSG boss had earlier admitted to removing him from his UEFA Super Cup matchday squad against Spurs. The Spaniard had told reporters, "Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, no doubt about it, and an even better person. But that's the life of top-level footballers. I am 100% responsible for this difficult decision. If it were easy, anyone would do it. These decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper my team needs. SÃO BERNARDO COMEÇA MELHOR E SAI NA FRENTE

O São Bernardo começou em cima do Corinthians e rapidamente converteu isso em gol. Com um minuto, Rodrigo Souza apareceu livre na entrada da área e obrigou o goleiro Cássio a fazer uma boa defesa. Dois minutos depois, Balbuena vacilou na saída de bola, perdeu a posse e atingiu o ex-corintiano Léo Jabá, que foi atingido e caiu na área. O árbitro João Vitor Gobi não pensou duas vezes em assinalar a penalidade, que foi batida e convertida pelo meio-campista Vitinho, que bateu no canto esquerdo, oposto ao que Cássio caiu.

E não é porque o Bernô saiu na frente antes dos cinco minutos de jogo que o time se fechou. O Tigre seguiu em cima do Timão e chegou até a acertar uma bola na trave, com João Carlos, de cabeça.

PRIMEIRO TEMPO DO TIMÃO É INEXISTENTE

Depois da bola da trave do São Bernardo, o jogo caiu de ritmo. O Bernô parou de ir para cima, mas o Timão também não agrediu. A equipe alvinegra até passou a ter mais a bola, mas a criação foi praticamente inexistente. Até os 40 minutos, o Corinthians finalizou somente uma vez e sem perigo. Nos minutos finais, teve mais um chute que não assustou o adversário e a única finalização em direção ao gol, em uma cabeceio de Giuliano, após cobrança de escanteio, que obrigou o goleiro Alex Alves fazer boa defesa.

SÃO BERNARDO VOLTA BROCANDO

E se o primeiro já estava se desenhando difícil para o Corinthians, ficou pior logo no primeiro lance de perigo do segundo tempo, quando o São Bernardo ampliou. Na primeira situação do lateral Alex Reinaldo, que havia entrado no intervalo, ele recebeu de Chrystian Barletta e cruzou por baixo para João Carlos, que estava sozinho na pequena área, e escorou para o fundo do gol.

O Timão até criou chances depois disso, a principal com uma finalização de Paulinho no travessão. Róger Guedes também teve uma boa chance, quando invadiu a área, pelo lado esquerdo, mas foi travado na hora da finalização.
