Fulham interested in Dwight Gayle

Fulham are interested in a deal to bring Dwight Gale to Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Chronicle, who claim that Scott Parker is considering a move for the Newcastle United centre-forward in the upcoming transfer window.

However, it is also reported that the Magpies are set to announce that the 31-year-old has signed a new three-year deal with the club, a move that is believed to be a bid to increase the player’s value ahead of a potential transfer.

Parker must move

Despite the fact that Gayle has found regular game time hard to come by at Newcastle in recent seasons, the £4.5m-rated man has a proven track record of being a clinical goalscorer at Championship level.

In United’s 2016/17 campaign in the second tier of English football, a season in which the club went on to win the league title, Gayle scored 23 goals, registered two assists and created two big chances for his teammates over 32 appearances, earning a highly impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.22.

More recently, the £32k-per-week striker was also in remarkable form in the Championship during a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion, bagging 23 goals, providing eight assists and creating four big chances over his 39 league appearances, seeing him earn a SofaScore match rating of 7.25.

As such, considering the player whom Alan Shearer dubbed as “magnificent” has scored a whopping 46 goals over his last 71 appearances in the Championship, his addition to Parker’s attacking arsenal at Fulham would appear to significantly increase the Cottagers’ chances of going on to secure an immediate return to the Premier League next season.

So, it would appear an extremely wise move for the 40-year-old to do all he can to convince the Newcastle United hitman of a move to west London this summer, as he could easily prove the difference between promotion and a further unwanted season languishing in the second tier of English football.

Blewett stars with ton on Notts debut

A magnificent 133 by Greg Blewett, on his debut for the county, helped Nottinghamshire to a first innings lead on day 3 of their Division Two match with Durham

Dave Bracegirdle27-Apr-2001A magnificent 133 by Greg Blewett, on his debut for the county, helped Nottinghamshire to a first innings lead on day 3 of their Division Two match with Durham.Blewett’s innings, comprisinq 21 sparkling boundaries and coming from 237 balls faced, makes him only the seventh player in the county’s history to score a century on debut.Beginning the day on 38–1 Notts progressed to 148–3 by lunch, losing the wickets of Darren Bicknell and Usman Afzaal. Bicknell looked to be unhappy with his lbw decision whilst Afzaal edged the ball to gully.During the afternoon session Blewett looked to be a major acquisition by Clive Rice for this season, stroking the ball majestically to all parts. Paul Collingwood spilled a difficult return offering when the Australian was on 87, but he promptly smashed the next two balls to the boundary and reached his century in the next over.Paul Johnson looked in reasonable form on his way to 30 but Kevin Pietersen only made 2 on his debut. The spin of Michael Gough finally accounted for Blewett, as keeper Andy Pratt took a sharp stumping. The standing ovation from the members spoke volumes for the quality of the innings.Paul Franks and Chris Read nudged Notts past the visitors total before bad light and then heavy rain forced the players from the field after just 6 overs of the final session. They later returned to take the score on to 344 for 6, a lead of 60.With just one day of this match remaining a draw looks inevitable.

Wolves manager update on Gerrard

Many Wolves fans have been left to buzz as Tim Spiers shared the name of a new manager candidate.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, the journalist has shared that Steven Gerrard is being looked at by the Midlands club as a potential replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Frank Lampard is also on the running, while Bruno Lage still remains the frontrunner, although Gerrard was certainly the name that caught the eye the most among the Molineux faithful.

The Liverpool and England international legend has just enjoyed a great season with Rangers, winning the Scottish Premiership title off of the hands of Celtic while also going through the Gers’ league campaign without a single defeat.

Of course, Gerrard knows the Premier League very well too, and so he has emerged as an ideal successor in the eyes of several WWFC supporters.

Smith ton puts Kent in commanding position

Former Cambridge Blue Ed Smith scored his second Championship century of the summer and took his match aggregate to 190 to put Kent into a commanding position going into the final day of their clash with Glamorgan in Maidstone

Mark Pennell15-Jun-2001Former Cambridge Blue Ed Smith scored his second Championship century of the summer and took his match aggregate to 190 to put Kent into a commanding position going into the final day of their clash with Glamorgan in Maidstone.Smith became the fourth Kent batsman to pass 500 runs for the season as the hosts recorded 358 in their second innings for an overall lead in the match of 376.Glamorgan reached 36 without loss after 12 overs by the close, but will have to bat well on the final day to score the 341 runs required on a Mote pitch that is starting to help the spinners.Indeed, but for Dean Cosker’s haul of three for 93, Glamorgan may not have been in with a victory chance whatsoever. The Welsh left-arm spinner ended Smith’s 190-ball stay to a catch at the wicket by Mark Wallace, the Glamorgan stand-in keeper who claimed eight catches in the match after his first-morning call-up – just one catch short of Colin Metson’s club record.Smith had featured in a fourth-wicket stand worth 108 with Matthew Walker and then a further partnership of 52 with Paul Nixon before Kent’s tail crumbled.Cosker also accounted for Walker, who went for 53 after misjudging a sweep, having earlier sent back Kent opener David Fulton (43) after he chopped on to his own stumps.Darren Thomas was rewarded for his unstinting work on a pretty flat pitch with a haul of four for 84, the last of which was the scalp of home skipper Matthew Fleming (46) who picked out third man with an upper-cut over the slips

Gerrard suffers Barisic injury blow

Steven Gerrard has suffered a huge injury blow ahead of Rangers’ final game of the season against Aberdeen on Saturday, with Borna Barisic seemingly ruled out of the Ibrox fixture after it was previously hoped that he would be fit.

The Croatia international was forced off in the 4-1 Old Firm derby win recently but it was previously suggested that he could make his return for the final game of the season.

However, Gerrard admitted in his pre-match conference that Barisic is now unlikely to feature, which suggests that Joe Aribo will continue to deputise at left-back.

Whilst the former Charlton Athletic man did a stellar job filling in there against Livingston in midweek in the absence of both Barisic and Calvin Bassey, who is suspended, it is not an ideal situation for Gerrard to have to deal with on the final day.

If Rangers avoid defeat against Stephen Glass’ side, then they will finish on at least 100 points and secure invincible league status, so there is plenty on the line for the Gers ahead of the final day.

The 40-year-old manager would have been desperate to have the “magic” Barisic back, therefore, as the left-back has been one of the key performers in his side so far this season.

In 30 Premiership appearances, the 28-year-old has contributed one goal and five assists, averaging a superb 7.35 average rating from WhoScored.

This ranks him as the fifth-best performer in Gerrard’s side this season, which emphasises just how important he has become at Ibrox, so they will definitely miss him on Saturday afternoon.

No player in Rangers’ side has played more key passes (2.2) per game than Barisic this season, which suggests that they could well lack a creative edge without him, although playing the attack-minded Aribo in his position on Wednesday did the trick for Gerrard’s side.

Hopefully the Nigerian international isn’t exposed from a defensive point of view and Rangers are able to get the job done without the influential Barisic, to allow them to end a fantastic domestic campaign unbeaten.

Nathan Ferguson suffers Achilles injury

Crystal Palace defender Nathan Ferguson has suffered a serious Achilles injury just days after Eberechi Eze suffered up a similar problem.

The Eagles have been handed another cruel blow ahead of what’s likely to be a busy summer at Selhurst Park after it was revealed that Ferguson is set to be sidelined until the new year with his torn Achilles.

It’s been a torrid first campaign in south London for the 20-year-old defender, who is yet to make a single appearance for the capital club following his arrival from West Bromwich Albion 12 months ago.

Ferguson arrived at Palace with a knee injury, and a string of minor fitness problems have kept the youngster on the treatment table ever since.

The news comes as a further setback in Steve Parish’s plans for a re-build over the upcoming transfer window, as two of Palace’s most promising young talents have now been ruled out for the first half of the 2021/22 campaign.

Eze has already undergone surgery for his respective injury and has begun his recovery process, while Ferguson is expected to follow suit in the coming days.

With Roy Hodgson set to depart Selhurst Park following a four-year stint at the club, a new era is set to begin in the next weeks and months, but this is far from an ideal foundation for a new manager to start from.

There are multiple players approaching the end of their current contracts at Palace, and a clearout is set to take place once Hodgson’s successor has been appointed, however, the enforced absence of Ferguson will surely leave the club’s supporters gutted.

He’s a highly-rated, exciting young full-back who has a potentially bright future ahead of him, and the fans have been unable to see his potential in a Palace shirt so far.

The £34,000-per-week gem will be hoping his appalling luck comes to an end in 2022, where he’ll be looking forward to getting back to his best following a two-year absence from football.

West Ham fans erupt over Rice news

According to a report by club insider Claret & Hugh, via West Ham Central, there is a concern among Manchester United scouts that Declan Rice is too ‘slow’ with a belief emerging that he is in fact no better than Nemanja Matic.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the Irons’ star asset in midfield, even prompting GSB to value him at around £100 million.

However, as per this C&H update, United scouts are starting to have major concerns over a swoop for Rice who they believe isn’t pacy enough to be worth acquiring for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 22-year-old, starting 29 Premier League games for West Ham this season, has managed the most interceptions out of any Irons player this season and has been key for boss David Moyes (WhoScored).

As a result, this strange alleged stance on a move for Rice comes as music to the ears of many Hammers fans on social media – with one calling it the ‘best news’ he’s heard in a while.

Howey backs Guardiola to sign Ings

Former Newcastle United midfielder Steve Howey has exclusively told Football FanCast that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Manchester City sign Danny Ings this summer.

Pep Guardiola is going to need a replacement for Sergio Aguero after the Argentine striker recently revealed that he’ll be leaving the Etihad at the end of the campaign.

The City manager has opted for the likes of Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden in a false nine role at times this season, with Gabriel Jesus his only other senior recognised frontman.

Guardiola recently went on record and by saying that signing an Aguero replacement is going to be “impossible” – although City have already been strongly linked with Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

But with those two likely to cost in the region of £100m, Southampton’s Ings, who might be available at a cut-price, with his contract running out next summer, has also been touted as a potential addition to Guardiola’s side.

Ings has endured an injury-hit campaign, scoring just 10 Premier League goals, but Howey believes that he would be a good addition for City.

He told Football FanCast:

“I’ve always liked Danny Ings. I remember Newcastle were interested in Danny Ings and the fee was £10m then £12m then £15m and I know he’s had his injury problems, but he’s a goalscorer. Last season he had a fabulous season.

“That wouldn’t surprise me, he’s a good footballer, he’d have good link-up play. But Pep sometimes doesn’t really play with an out and out number nine. Look where Jesus was the other week against Manchester United, tackling on the edge of his box badly, but he was there.

“Sometimes they’re strange ones, but they seem to work out. If it’s paper talk it’s paper talk, but if Guardiola has looked at it then he feels like he can do something.”

Ryan Jack signing was a bargain for Rangers

Rangers’ decision to sign Ryan Jack on a free transfer from Aberdeen has certainly proven to be a bargain, with the midfielder’s value having significantly increased during his time playing under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

The defensive-midfielder made the move to Ibrox from Pittodrie in the summer of 2017 and he has been a key part of the Rangers squad ever since.

In 130 appearances for the Light Blues, he has contributed 11 goals and 12 assists, which already eclipses the total of goal contributions he managed in 250 appearances for Aberdeen.

Jack enjoyed an excellent start to the season for Rangers, contributing two goals and one assist in 19 Premiership appearances, resulting in a solid 7.03 average rating, which ranks him as the 10th-best performer for the Gers in the top-flight so far this season.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old picked up an injury in the 4-1 win against Dundee United back in February and hasn’t been seen since, with assistant manager Gary McAllister confirming recently that he travelled to London to see a specialist about his injury problems, which suggests that he is unlikely to feature again this season.

However, it has still proven to be an excellent decision to sign Jack on a free transfer, as he is now valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, which represents a big increase considering Rangers paid nothing for the Scottish international.

It is clear to see how the midfielder’s value has increased during his time at Ibrox, with the arrival of Steven Gerrard in 2018 also seemingly having a positive impact, as his £2.7m current value is the highest of his career.

Jack, who reportedly earns £13k per week, is one of the best passers in Gerrard’s squad, having registered a 90% pass accuracy in the league so far this season, whilst his tackling and interception stats also score highly compared to the rest of the squad.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/rangers-news-ibrox-steven-gerrard-ross-wilson-gers-rfc” title=”Latest Rangers news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The 40-year-old manager was full of praise for his midfielder last season, saying:

“When we came in we inherited a good player, without a doubt. Aberdeen had done a really good job with Ryan in terms of his development and giving him the opportunity to play at the top level. He obviously became a leader.

“So there was coaching prior to us that deserves a lot of credit in Ryan’s development. We obviously saw a winner when we came in.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776”]

Therefore, it seems clear that Rangers were able to unearth a gem when they signed Jack on a free transfer, as he has proven himself to be one of the most consistent members of the squad during his time at Ibrox.

And, in other news… Wilson must swoop for 12-goal gem who had £36m star on toast
