Group AHaris Sohail scored a 44-ball 66 to set up a 72-run win for Sialkot Stallions over Quetta Bears in Islamabad. Sialkot, who chose to bat first, were propelled towards a total of 154 for 8 by Sohail’s 44-ball knock, which included three fours and five sixes, and a 34-ball 33 from Shakeel Ansar. The middle and lower-order didn’t contribute too much, with offspinner Fareeduddin coming on as fifth-change and picking up four wickets in two overs.Even so, a target of 155 proved well beyond Quetta, who crawled to 82 for 9 in their 20 overs. Nazar Hussain, coming in at No. 9, ensured his side wouldn’t be bowled out, scoring a 27-ball 26 with a four and two sixes. Medium-pacer Hasan Ali and left-arm spinner Raza Hasan took three wickets each for Sialkot.Group BKashif Naved scored a 26-ball 44 and took three wickets in two overs as Multan Tigers beat Rawalpindi Rams by 2 runs in a thriller in Rawalpindi. After Naved had had two batsmen stumped with his left-arm spin in the 14th over of the chase, Rawalpindi were left needing 62 runs in 37 balls, with only three wickets in hand. From there, Yasim Murtaza smashed a 12-ball 21 in a partnership of 25 with Mohammad Nawaz before he became Naved’s third victim. This left Rawalpindi with 37 to get from 21 balls.Jamal Anwar then continued from where Murtaza had left off. It came down to 18 from six balls, and, after Jamal struck two fours in Rizwan Haider’s final over, five to get off the last ball. Anwar could only manage two.Sent in to bat, Multan’s openers, Zain Abbas and Zeeshan Ashraf, set them up for a big score by putting on 71 in 9.1 overs. Sohaib Maqsood scored a 21-ball 32, Naved a 26-ball 44 with six fours and two sixes, and Gulraiz Sadaf an unbeaten 11-ball 29 to power them to 183 for five.Group CImran Khan took three wickets to help Peshawar Panthers beat Lahore Eagles by seven wickets in Rawalpindi. After Peshawar elected to field, right-arm seamer Imran dismissed both openers to leave Lahore struggling on 3 for 2 in the third over. Kamran Akmal led a brief recovery, scoring 21 off 16 deliveries, but once he was dismissed, Lahore never quite recovered. They lost regular wickets and were 64 for 7 in the 15th over. Mohammad Khalil, the No. 9, lifted Lahore with 22 in 13 balls, but he was caught behind off Imran. Lahore weren’t bowled out, but finished on a below-par 104 for 9.Peshawar’s chase wasn’t straightforward. They lost three wickets in a hurry to go from 21 for 0 to 30 for 3, but Mohammad Fayyaz and Adil Amin scripted an unbroken 77-run stand that took Peshawar home with 27 balls to spare. Fayyaz was not out on a 38-ball 35 while Amin made an unbeaten 25-ball 40, with two fours and two sixes.Group DYasir Hameed and Younis Khan scored breezy unbeaten half-centuries to power Abbottabad Falcons to a massive 200 for 1, a score that proved well beyond Bahawalpur Stags’ reach. Abbottabad won by 77 runs.Bahawalpur might have regretted their decision to field first, after Hameed and Younis put on an unbroken 169-run partnership for the second wicket. Hameed struck 11 fours and a six in his unbeaten 68-ball 97, while Younis smashed six fours and two sixes in a 47-ball 71 as Abbottabad galloped along at 10 an over.In reply, Bahawalpur never got going. They were 49 for six, before Ansar Javed’s unbeaten 32 and Faisal Mubashir’s 29 helped them cross 100. In the end, they finished on 123 for eight. For Abbottabad, left-arm spinner Khalid Usman took three wickets.

Panesar makes Essex move permanent

Monty Panesar’s future has been resolved with Essex revealing his has signed a two-year contract.

ESPNcricinfo staff31-Oct-2013Monty Panesar’s future has been resolved after Essex revealed he has signed a two-year contract.Panesar, who endured a troubled 2013, spent the final months of the season on loan at Essex and took 14 wickets in six County Championship matches.Currently in Australia on England’s Ashes tour, Panesar, who was courted by several clubs, has now made his move to Chelmsford permanent and will seek to rebuild his career.”I loved playing for Essex last season,” Panesar said. “In the short time I was there, I was made to feel very welcome, both in the team and around the club.”I will always remember how the supporters and members gave me a heart-warming round of applause when I first came on to bowl at Colchester last August. It helped me to feel respected and loved as a cricketer after experiencing a challenging time in my life.”I am determined to play my part in inspiring the team to be successful in all competitions. I want to help the club build towards the kind of success they enjoyed in its glory days under legendary captains Keith Fletcher and Graham Gooch.”I love the ‘family feel’ of the club, and value the role Essex has played in helping me move towards my best, and gain selection for this winter’s Ashes Series.”Panesar’s tumbled into obscurity last season having only months before played a vital role as England claimed a famous series victory in India. His form for Sussex disappeared and his attitude was questioned. Panesar’s issues came to a head on a now infamous night out in Brighton when he was arrested for urinating on a nightclub bouncer. He was subsequently sacked by Sussex. But a fresh start at Essex did not prove the end of his indiscretions and he was handed a suspended County Championship ban for “potentially threatening and intimidating behaviour towards a member of the opposition”.Despite his increasing baggage, Panesar was selected on England’s Ashes tour and welcomed the chance to resurrect his international career, saying, “It’s an incredible boost I needed as a cricketer and as a person, after a chapter in my life I’m ashamed of.”If Essex can return Panesar to his best, he will prove a most valuable asset as they try to return to Division One of the County Championship after a narrow failure in 2013. They have lacked a quality spinner for a number of years and Panesar has the potential to fulfil the role.”We are delighted that Monty has decided to join our Club,” Essex chief executive Derek Bowden said. “He liked his time here at the end of last season and we enjoyed having him. He was on top of our list for new players and it’s great to finalise his signing in good time for next season”

The BCCI is set to ban former IPL chairman Lalit Modi for life in a Special General Meeting in Chennai on September 25. The SGM will act upon the report filed by a special disciplinary committee constituted to look into various charges related to financial irregularity against Modi. The committee, comprising BCCI vice-president Arun Jaitley, former IPL chairman Chirayu Amin and BCCI’s finance committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia, had filed a 500-page report in July after investigating charges against Modi, who was suspended minutes after the conclusion of the IPL 2010 final.Despite the board being divided over president N Srinivasan’s role in handling the spot-fixing scandal that rocked IPL 2013, the SGM is set to unanimously ban Modi from BCCI. “The committee has suggested a life ban and almost everyone is set to back the recommendation,” a BCCI official told ESPNcricinfo. “Despite the existing differences, the meeting should get over quite quickly.”SGMs, which strictly discuss a pre-fixed agenda, require a three-fourth mandate for a decision to be ratified. This effectively means that 24 votes would be enough to get Modi banned in a house of 31 votes, including 27 full members, National Cricket Club in Kolkata, Cricket Club of India in Mumbai, All-India Universities and the president’s vote.Following the revelations of irregularities in the bidding process and ownership patterns of certain franchisees, the BCCI had laid down several charges against Modi and appointed a committee of Jaitley, Amin and then BCCI president Shashank Manohar. Following Modi’s charges that Manohar harboured a personal bias against him, an SGM in July 2010 had inducted Scindia into the committee in place of Manohar and also ratified the charges against Modi.If Modi is handed a life ban at the SGM, his only route back to cricket administration in India will be through the courts.

Northeast, Carlson make centuries but Roland-Jones keeps Middlesex in the hunt

Big afternoon stand is bookended by collapses against both new balls on topsy-turvy day in Cardiff

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay23-May-2025Glamorgan were unable to make their mid-innings dominance of Middlesex count, as hundreds from Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson were offset by the loss of seven wickets on a balanced day one at Sophia Gardens. The captain and vice-captain’s 228-run partnership lifted the hosts to 280 for 3 after three early wickets fell for 52, but they finished on 334 for 7 at the close with Toby Roland-Jones dependable as ever for Middlesex with 4 for 73.Northeast and Carlson both fell within 10 overs for 122 and 109 respectively to give Middlesex a chance to fight back with the new ball towards the end of the day, with Ryan Higgins also taking 3 for 44.Middlesex won the toss and elected to bowl on a green surface at Sophia Gardens with uncertainty of how the lush ground would play following heavy rainfall in south Wales for the first time this season. The visitors got off to a strong start with restrictions on runs initially before the series of plays and misses turned to wickets thanks to the experience and skillset of Middlesex veteran Roland-Jones.Marnus Labuschagne’s woes were improved on last week’s four runs across two innings but he still didn’t look comfortable. The Australian added 23, including a gifted four from a bizarre Luke Hollman overthrow on a certain dot ball.Glamorgan’s new pair combined their red- and white-ball captains, but the bowlers were still on top going into the second session with Northeast scoring cagily at first against a prominent attack which includes three Test internationals. As has been the case for this pair this season, Carlson eventually got his strokes to come together to increase the scoring rate, with typical Carlson backfoot punches and cuts, including against the novice Naavya Sharma in his second match. Meanwhile, Northeast churned out his runs, ambitious to beat his previous season best of 67 in 11 innings. Between them, they produced Glamorgan’s first unbroken session partnership of the season. The pair went at four an over for the afternoon, with a six from the captain moving him to 99 and Carlson surviving an edge evading slip’s head off Hollman on 96 before they both passed three figures. The new ball brought the change in fortune for the visitors in the final 16 overs of the day as the momentum shifted. Carlson was in disbelief to be given out in the 81st over and Tom Bevan following shortly afterwards in his first game of the season, in place for the absent student, Ben Kellaway.Higgins was soon in on the action, bowling Northeast for 122 as four wickets fell for 39 runs. Andy Gorvin was required to survive the night alongside Chris Cooke, who never looked fazed for his unbeaten 32.

Abdur Razzak adds voice to payments issue

Rangpur Riders captain Abdur Razzak has said his team’s players have been playing “free of cost” in the Bangladesh Premier League because they haven’t been paid yet

Rangpur Riders captain Abdur Razzak has said his team’s players have been playing “free of cost” in this season of the Bangladesh Premier League because they haven’t been paid yet. Razzak’s comments come a day after Owais Shah, the Dhaka Gladiators batsman, complained he had not been paid the first installment (25%) of his $75,000 paycheck. The Riders are third in the tournament with three wins, after they went down to Sylhet Royals by five wickets on Thursday.”Our focus is bound to be hampered,” Razzak said. “The foreign players in my team are feeling insecure. Our owner has told us the payments will be cleared before the second round. It would be great if it happens because we are all professional cricketers. We have played free of cost so far, so there have been discussions among the players.”Razzak said he hoped the owners understood that cricket was the only source of income for most of the players, but wasn’t certain he would see all the money. “I am not saying that I will be playing free of cost but if I had to, it wouldn’t be a good situation. What will be my livelihood? I have spent my life in cricket.”Truth be told, I am not confident about payment. If I say I am confident, I might not get paid, and if I say I won’t get paid, they may clear the payment.”Shah had said that he received the remittance slip from the Bangladesh board but the amount had not been credited into his account. ESPNcricinfo was also told that Shah was just one of many players not to have been paid.Tim May, the the chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA), said that players’ patience with the organisers had worn thin and there was possibility of a boycott if the payments were not made.

Cool Sammy stokes West Indies' fire

West Indies’ focus on unity is not difficult to understand, given the dressing room’s recent history

Andrew Fernando in Pallakele28-Sep-2012″One goal, one people, one team” has been West Indies’ motto at the World Twenty20, and the focus on unity is not difficult to understand, given the dressing room’s recent history. The side’s biggest star, Chris Gayle, has recently returned following a row with the board, while other members of the team have also spent time away, plying their trade in the IPL and elsewhere at the expense of turning out for West Indies.Darren Sammy, the captain, has one of the most unique challenges in world cricket and has presented a united front as the team ignited their World Twenty20 campaign with a solid 16-run victory over England in the Super Eights. “I just keep everybody cool,” Sammy said. “We have a lot of cool guys so when you’re out there you need to have someone in charge.”When I’m out there I try to get all the senior players involved in decision-making so everyone feels a part of the team. That’s the important thing for us, that everyone in the squad feels a part of it. It’s easy to do that. My character allows me to involve everyone.”Early in his tenure as captain, Sammy expressed a desire to “make West Indies cricket great again” and said the team draws inspiration from their fans in their pursuit of that goal. Tagged one of the tournament favourites because of their batting firepower, an experienced battery of T20 players and the spin of Sunil Narine, West Indies will take a major step towards qualifying for the semi-finals if they are able to defeat Sri Lanka on Saturday.”When we left the Caribbean, winning the tournament for the fans was the most important thing in our minds,” he said. “The last decade has been tough for us. We last won silverware in 2004 [the Champions Trophy]. It is a good opportunity for us to do that here. We’ve been playing well as a team and we have to take it one game at a time.”Sammy used part-time bowlers Gayle and Marlon Samuels in addition to Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree to make up 15 overs of spin in their victory against England. Frontline seamer Andre Russell did not bowl at all, nor did allrounder Kieron Pollard, while Sammy himself bowled just one over. Sammy hinted the West Indies attack would not be so spin-heavy against Sri Lanka, who are good players of spin, but said it was helpful to have the bowling options the allrounders and part-timers provide.”Everyone wants to bowl, so it’s good to have that in your armoury,” Sammy said. “In the last two games Chris has done well for us though he didn’t bowl in five or six matches leading up to the tournament. Pollard has not bowled a ball in this tournament. It’s good to have the back up. We know we have three bowlers who will definitely bowl four overs and we make up the rest with the other guys.”Sammy expected Sri Lanka’s senior batsmen to be key to their chances. Sri Lanka relied on Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan for over 80% of their runs in their Super Over victory over New Zealand on Thursday.”The senior players always turn up for them and they have a good mix in the squad,” he said. “You just can’t count them out at home. Playing them is a big challenge, but it’s one we’re ready for.”

Quem vai jogar a Libertadores?
