Everton eye Chelsea ace Loftus-Cheek

Many Everton fans have been left buzzing over some transfer news that has emerged on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

As per The Daily Mail, the Goodison Park faithful have now registered an interest in signing the Chelsea midfield player before the January transfer window shuts, after injuries to both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph.

Of course, he is a player that incoming manager Frank Lampard knows well, having played under him ten times over the course of two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Loftus-Cheek would certainly offer the Merseyside club more dynamism in the middle of the park, as he averages more dribbles, aerial duels won and a better pass completion than regulars Doucoure, Allan and Andre Gomes (WhoScored), and at 26 years of age, still has not quite hit his full potential.

West Brom must sign Okay Yokuslu

Having lost their latest Championship game 1-0 against relegation strugglers Derby County on Monday, some West Brom fans were not shy in sharing their criticism of Baggies boss Valerien Ismael and his post-match comments saying that the players need to take responsibility for the defeat.

With this in mind, the upcoming January transfer window could give Ismael the opportunity to not only strengthen his squad but also get some Baggies fans back on his side with a few exciting transfers.

One deal that Ismael could look to complete which would surely delight a lot of West Brom fans and boost their chances of securing promotion would be to pull off the signing of former Baggies loanee Okay Yokuslu.

Labelled a “forceful” player earlier this year by West Brom podcaster Adrian Goldberg, the £6.3m-rated Turkey international has only made six appearances for Celta Vigo in La Liga, all of them coming off the  bench. That would suggest that he isn’t an important figure for the Galician outfit and could be better off making a move to somewhere like Albion where he could get regular playing time.

With a recent report claiming that the fan favourite midfielder would be willing to make a return to the Midlands after enjoying his six-month spell on loan there last season, this could be just what Ismael needs to not only strengthen his midfield but also bring some positivity back for the supporters.

In his 16 Premier League appearances for the Baggies last term, Yokuslu’s performances earned him an overall season rating of 6.96/10, making him their joint-highest rated player alongside Matheus Pereira according to WhoScored. That shows how much of an impact he had at the club and suggests why many fans would surely be delighted to see him return.

Taking this into account and the reports that Robert Snodgrass could be on his way out of the club next month, West Brom should do all they can to bring Yokuslu back to The Hawthorns to see if he can fire them back to the Premier League by the end of the campaign.

Celtic: Osaze Urhoghide offers received

Celtic ‘are looking’ to loan out Osaze Urhoghide during the January transfer window, according to Joe Crann for The Scotsman.

The lowdown: Urhoghide limited

Urhoghide was the first signing of the Ange Postecoglou era at Celtic, penning a four-year deal after his contract at Sheffield Wednesday expired (via Sky Sports).

However, he was limited to a solitary appearance prior to the winter break, and that came in a Europa League dead-rubber against Real Betis.

The right-back produced an all-action performance against the La Liga outfit, winning five tackles, prevailing in nine out of 15 duels, completing two dribbles and creating a chance (via SofaScore).

The latest: Celtic plan loan move

‘(I) understand that the club have turned down approaches to sign Osaze Urhoghide on a permanent basis,’ Crann said on Twitter.

However, the Hoops do intend to let him leave Parkhead on a temporary basis.

There’s interest in the 21-year-old from ‘clubs in the SPFL and English Championship’.

The verdict: Great decision

Opportunities have been hard to come by for Urhoghide, but he very much looks to remain part of Celtic’s long-term plans.

And no wonder, based on a ‘fantastic debut’ against Betis that Football Scotland’s Euan Robertson rated eight out of 10.

If he can impress on loan further down the SPFL or in the English second tier, he’ll return to Lennoxtown for pre-season with his prospects of a greater squad role significantly boosted.

Listing him for loan is a smart move from the Hoops, and a permanent deal should absolutely be out of the question given how little we’ve seen of his abilities so far.

West Ham weigh up Nathan Ake move

As per The Evening Standard, an update has emerged involving Manchester City defender Nathan Ake and West Ham’s plans for January.

The Lowdown: West Ham in defensive crisis…

After injuries to both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma, the Irons have been left short of options at the back, with manager David Moyes having just Issa Diop and Craig Dawson at his disposal.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

This has prompted the club to look at their options in the transfer market, with the likes of James Tarkowski and Nathaniel Phillips already linked.

The Championship could also be a source for Moyes as West Ham have reportedly sent scouts to watch QPR defender Rob Dickie, Middlesbrough mainstay Dael Fry and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly (90min).

The Latest: West Ham weigh Ake loan bid…

As per The Evening Standard, Moyes is personally keen on signing a left-footed centre-half as West Ham weigh up a January loan bid for Ake.

The Netherlands international, who has been featuring more often for City this season, is now on the Irons’ agenda amid their injury woes, and Moyes wants a player of the 26-year-old’s ilk to bring balance to the back four.

The Verdict: Right move?

Described as ‘underrated’ by international teammate and Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, bypassing Ake’s £28.8m valuation (Transfermarkt) and bringing him in on a temporary basis would be an astute bit of business from West Ham’s perspective.

However, City boss Pep Guardiola could arguably wish to keep the 26-year-old at Eastlands for the time being, with his squad having suffered from player availability emergencies as of late. For instance, centre-back Aymeric Laporte missed the trip to RB Leipzig on Tuesday night with a minor knock, so Guardiola may want Ake around for cover.

While it would be a hard move to pull off, especially mid-season, there is little arguing that Ake would improve West Ham’s defence, with Guardiola himself recently calling the Dutchman ‘focused’, ‘intelligent’ and a ‘joy to have’ (mancity.com).

Newcastle: Lingard makes key decision

An update has emerged on Newcastle United’s interest in Manchester United gem Jesse Lingard, regarding a huge call on his future…

What’s the talk?

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the England international wants to fight for his spot at Old Trafford under Ralf Rangnick and does not want to leave midway through the campaign.

The report claims that the Magpies will now not be pursuing a deal for him in the January transfer window following on from his decision.

Reignition

Although this update now appears to rule out the possibility of him arriving at St. James’ Park next month, Newcastle must reignite their interest and attempt to persuade him to change his mind.

The attacking midfielder has only played eight minutes of football in the Premier League this season, yet has more goals (two) than every Newcastle player aside of Allan Saint-Maximin (three) and Callum Wilson (six). This not only highlights the United man’s knack for scoring goals but also shows how much the Magpies have struggled at the top end of the pitch.

Lingard also scored nine goals and provided four assists in 16 games on loan to West Ham in the top-flight last season, with Toon legend Alan Shearer hailing him as “stunning”. This further emphasises the point that he knows how to score at this level and that is why he could have been an exciting signing for Howe’s team.

Red Devils coach Michael Carrick previously went out of his way to laud the Englishman. He said:

“I think his movement is excellent. It’s something that sounds quite simple, but it’s difficult to defend against.

“He senses where the space is and how to use it. I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s a dribbler with skills and tricks but he’s dynamic. How he plays, he is unique in some ways. You don’t see so much of that now as everyone wants to get on the ball. Off the ball, he’s very effective.”

The £80k-per-week gem is a proven Premier League player and supporters will be frustrated that the chances of him joining their team have all but diminished before the transfer window has even opened.

This, along with his goalscoring quality, is why Nick Hammond and Howe must do all they can to bring him to Tyneside before February – reigniting their interest in him and prising the forward away from Old Trafford.

Donny van de Beek could leave in January

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek could be set for a January exit after finding opportunities hard to come by during his time at the club.

What’s the story?

The 24-year-old has been linked with an Old Trafford departure for several months, with the likes of Everton, Newcastle United and Wolves all credited with an interest in his services.

And now, well-known journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Van de Beek’s future, stating he expects the creative talent to leave United over the coming months unless his current situation changes.

Popular Twitter page UtdReport relayed his comments, tweeting: “Fabrizio Romano: ‘As things stand now, in November, if the situation continues with Solskjær as manager, not trusting or playing Donny van de Beek, I expect Van de Beek to leave the club in January.'”

Man Utd fans will be worried

The Netherlands international arrived at United in the summer of 2020 via a £40m move from boyhood club Ajax but has been unable to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on a regular basis.

In his maiden campaign on English shores, Van de Beek started just 15 games in all competitions for the Red Devils, with only four of those outings coming in the Premier League.

His bit-part role under Solskjaer led to heavy speculation that he could seek pastures new last summer after only 12 months at the club, and Everton reportedly came close to securing his signature.

Marcel Brands, the Toffees director of football, openly admitted that the creative talent was on his list of potential targets before the deal collapsed.

“We had him on our list. At the beginning of the transfer window, we enquired at United, then it was impossible,” he told Dutch outlet NOS.

“At the end of the window, I received a call from Guido Albers, his agent, that he might be rented out after all. But at the last minute, it was cancelled. Stopped again.”

Since then, Van de Beek has only been awarded 154 minutes of action in all competitions in 2021/22 as he’s been forced to watch on from the sidelines and changed agents in an attempt to end his United nightmare.

And news that the engine room operator is set to depart Old Trafford will leave large sections of the club’s supporters worried, despite his limited impact.

With Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all in the final year of their contracts, United could be desperately sort of attacking midfielders next season, and Van de Beek’s exit would only add to their woes.

Wolves fans slam Trincao vs Norwich

Many Wolves fans have been  slamming the performance of Francisco Trincao in their game at Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Barcelona loanee was preferred to Adama Traore by Bruno Lage but struggled to make an impact as he was substituted off for the Spaniard in the 68th minute with the score at 0-0.

He lost out on seven of his nine duels (77.8%) and failed to record a single shot on goal, key pass or cross in the match, losing possession of the ball on seven separate occasions (SofaScore).

At this rate, Wolves may want to think twice about making his move to Molineux permanent, and surely Traore must now be given a run in the team over the busy Christmas period given that Trincao has gone nine Premier League appearances without a goal or assist to his name.

Rangers fans slam Goldson vs Aberdeen

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left slamming the display of Connor Goldson in their 2-2 draw at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

The central defender put John Lundstram into trouble with an early pass, which eventually led to Steven Gerrard’s team conceding the first goal at Ibrox, courtesy of Christian Ramirez.

It was certainly not his best night, as he lost out on four of his duels, failed to block any shots on his goal, and also lost possession of the ball on no fewer than on 14 separate occasions in the match, the fifth-most out of any of his teammates (Sofascore).

Goldson’s contract at the Light Blues is up in the summer, and if he continues putting in performances like these, the the Teddy Bears may want to think twice about offering him a new one, potentially tempting the club to cash in this January.

Newcastle: Murphy was Jones’ real hero

Newcastle’s winless start to the 2021/22 Premier League season continued as they held Brighton to a 1-1 draw at The AMEX on Saturday.

Graeme Jones led the team for the third match in a row, with Eddie Howe watching on from the stands, and failed to pick up the club’s first win of the campaign.

Leandro Trossard scored from the spot to hand Brighton the lead after Ciaran Clark was penalised, before Isaac Hayden rescued a point with a goal in the second half.

Whilst the former Arsenal man scored the goal to earn the Magpies a point, another player was Jones’ real hero against the Seagulls – Jacob Murphy.

The Englishman was brought in at right wing-back ahead of Javier Manquillo and put in an excellent performance to prove that he was deserving of his place in the side. Jones will surely have been left delighted by the ex-Norwich player’s display, as he was able to get up and down the right flank for Newcastle.

Defensively, he was excellent. Per SofaScore, he won nine of his 14 ground duels throughout the match. He also made an eye-catching five tackles and three interceptions, whilst he did not allow a single Brighton player to dribble past him down the right.

Hayden, meanwhile, won six ground duels in the middle of the park, as he made five tackles and one interception for the side. This shows how Murphy made more of an impact defensively than the holding midfielder and was able to impose himself physically on the Brighton players, keeping Marc Cucurella under wraps. The Spanish Brighton left-back ended the match with two attempted dribbles and a success rate of 0%, showing how well Murphy defended.

On the ball, there was room for improvement. Per SofaScore, he only completed 67% of his passes, but he did win three fouls and complete one dribble. The defender also attempted four crosses, although none of his teammates were able to get on the end of them. This shows that he still offered a useful outlet, despite his passing leaving a bit to be desired.

Therefore, overall he was the real hero for Jones as he was given a huge opportunity to come in and perform and he grasped his opportunity with both hands. He may have also caught the attention of Howe watching on from the stands, who no doubt would have been delighted with his imapct.

Liverpool fans erupt over Trent blow

Flocking to Twitter, many fans have flocked to news shared by James Pearce as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is dealt a hammer injury blow to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds suffered a wide range of serious injuries to key players last term as they missed out on defending their first Premier League crown in 30 years.

Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were just some of the players ruled out for extended periods over 2020/2021 (inews) and Klopp will be hoping to avoid a repeat of that worrying trend this campaign.

However, as reporter Pearce shares news on ‘another painful injury blow’ from Klopp, it appears Liverpool’s injury list is growing once again with Harvey Elliott, Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara also out (The Athletic).

Indeed, Klopp has now told BT Sport (via Pearce) that Alexander-Arnold’s injury is ‘serious’ and he also isn’t likely to feature in their upcoming blockbuster clash at home to rivals Man City.

Flocking to this news, given how important he is to this Liverpool team, it’s little wonder supporters have erupted.
