The BKSP ground, which was slated to host the match between the West Indians and a BCB XI from November 8, has not dried sufficiently to be fit for play following a week of wet weather, according to BCB cricket operations manager Sabbir Khan.”It will not be possible to dry out the ground in the next two days,” Khan told ESPNcricinfo. “The BKSP cricket ground hasn’t adequately dried, and the decision was made based on the curator’s opinion.”Yesterday, the BCB had announced that the game was being reduced to a two-day affair. West Indies coach Ottis Gibson, who had attempted to travel to BKSP on Wednesday morning for an inspection, had said later that he still hoped to get some match practice.”We’ve been told the ground where we are supposed to play the practice match is wet. We are still monitoring the situation, we are hoping to get some practice before the Test match,” Gibson said on Wednesday.The BKSP ground in Savar, a town about 40kms north of Dhaka, had hosted tour matches in the past but has poor draining facilities. No other match on West Indies’ tour of Bangladesh is slated for the venue.The match was West Indies’ only tour game ahead of the first Test in Mirpur on November 13.

The West Indies captain Darren Sammy admitted that their goal ahead of the Bangladesh tour had not been fulfilled after they won two out of the three formats. Their win in the one-off Twenty20 international ensured they left in good spirits, but the ODI series loss was still hurting the visitors.”We won the same amount of series as we did last year so we haven’t achieved what we set out to do,” Sammy said. “Bangladesh played really well, especially in the ODIs. We are disappointed losing the ODI series.”However, Sammy was pleased to win the Twenty20 match, West Indies’ first game as World Twenty20 champions after their back-from-the-head victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Marlon Samuels played a stellar hand in that game, with a superbly crafted 78, and he did a similar job in Mirpur as he held the innings together with an unbeaten 85 off 43 balls.”The way Marlon was playing that innings, it surely reminded me the game against Sri Lanka,” Sammy said. “This was our first game after the victory and we won. We won, that’s all we had to do.”We have guys who can be match-winners for us every day. It is good to see Marlon do well after two years out of international cricket. He has been brilliant for us.”Bangladesh started their pursuit of 198 in strong style, but Sammy said he was not too concerned when Tamim Iqbal cut loose in the first over which cost 17 followed by 26 from the next two.”We expected them to come hard at us. You have to go hard all the time when the run-rate is ten an over. Although they only lost one wicket, they were short by 18 runs. I wanted to win and end the year in a good note.”Sammy pinpointed Bangladesh’s achievement of keeping Chris Gayle quiet for ten innings in a row as a notable part of the tour. Gayle made 166 runs across all formats over the last four weeks, an aspect of the contests which the Bangladesh captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, called a “big achievement” for the hosts.”They managed to keep Gayle quiet throughout the series, something that not many teams have done in his career,” Sammy said. “They executed well against him. Every player goes out there to do their best. I know because I try and it doesn’t happen all the time. It is up to the individual to go back and think about his game. Chris will come back as he is a world-class player.”

ووقعت أحداث شغب أثناء مباراة الرجاء والأهلي والتي أقيمت على ملعب “مُركب محمد الخامس” يوم، السبت الماضي أثناء خروج لاعبي المارد الأحمر بعد نهاية المباراة بإلقاء الجماهير بعض زجاجات المياه.

بينما توقفت مباراة الترجي وشبيبة القبائل على ملعب “رادس” في تونس لبعض الوقت لحين سيطرة قوات الأمن على الجماهير المشاغبة واستئناف اللقاء مرة أخرى.

وعلق الأمين العام لـ كاف على تلك الأحداث في تصريحات رسمية لموقع الاتحاد الإفريقي لكرة القدم، فيرون موسينجو أومبا: “ما حدث في تونس والدار البيضاء كان غير مقبول، لا يمكننا مشاهدة ما حدث من قبل بعض الجماهير في تلك المباريات، ندين بشدة تلك التصرفات المسيئة، وسنفتح تحقيقًا من خلال اللجان المختصة لمعرفة الأسباب واتخاذ القرارات المناسبة”.

وأتم: “كانت هناك مباريات مذهلة في تلك المرحلة من دوري أبطال إفريقيا، أعادت التأكيد على مدى أهمية تلك البطولة من خلال بعض المباريات المثيرة”.

Em 2016, os números continuaram bons, terminando a temporada como o segundo melhor ataque do Brasil, porém a quantidade diminuiu. Foram 110 tentos santistas ao longo do ano, mais uma vez com Ricardo Oliveira como artilheiro do time, balançando a rede 22 vezes, com Vitor Bueno na vice-liderança, autor de 13 gols.

No ano seguinte, as coisas já tiveram uma mudança considerável. Embora tenha atingido 91 tentos em partidas oficiais, o Santos foi apenas o 12º ataque do país. Muito disso devido aos problemas de saúde e de lesão pelos quais Ricardo Oliveira passou durante toda a temporada 2017. Tanto é que o centroavante anotou 12 gols, mesmo número alcançado por Kayke. Os dois ocuparam a vice-liderança, atrás de Bruno Henrique, com 18 bolas na rede.

A transição de 2017 para 2018 foi complicada, especialmente pela saída de Ricardo Oliveira, que não renovou seu contrato com o clube. Assim, o novo presidente teve de ir ao mercado para buscar a contratação de uma reposição, que atendeu pelo nome de Gabigol, um velho conhecido, que anotou 27 gols ao longo da temporada. Algo ousado e arriscado, diante das condições financeiras da instituição que, em partes, deu retorno.

No entanto, o número de tentos do clube no ano caiu drasticamente. Em 2018 o Peixe balançou a rede 79 vezes, ocupando a 11ª posição no ranking brasileiro. Mesmo com Gabriel inspirado, isso não foi suficiente para que o setor ofensivo fosse destaque. Para completar, Bruno Henrique sofreu lesão no olho logo no início da temporada e, quando voltou, não teve boa participação, marcando apenas dois gols.

Agora, para a temporada 2019, os problemas se intensificam, pois sabe-se que Gabigol não renovará o empréstimo, que o clube continua com problemas financeiros, e que não há uma reposição pronta no elenco. A aposta em Felippe Cardoso, que veio da Ponte Preta na metade do ano, não será solução imediata, nem mesmo o jovem Yuri Alberto. Esses fatores obrigam o clube a ir ao mercado para tentar uma cartada parecida com a dada por Gabriel, mas com a consciência de que a tarefa será difícil.

For most of Sri Lanka’s Test squad, Christmas may almost seem like déjà vu, having found themselves in a near-identical situation this time last year. Chasing their first ever win in South Africa, Sri Lanka had been defeated on a difficult surface in the first Test, though their demise on that occasion had been scripted on a Centurion greentop that derailed their first innings, unlike the fissured Hobart track that made survival difficult on the final day.In Australia, Rodney Hogg had announced the visiting quicks “the worst new-ball attack” ever to arrive in the country, but in South Africa, Sri Lanka had suffered an even more injurious assessment, when Kepler Wessels claimed even South Africa’s A side could defeat the visitors. On both occasions, Sri Lanka have largely been viewed as soft opposition against whom youngsters may be blooded and sides can be bedded down for more harrowing tests ahead.But in the test starting on 2011’s Boxing Day, Sri Lanka stunned their hosts on a dry surface in Durban to record as unexpected a victory as any in the year. A Thilan Samaraweera century and Chanaka Welegedara rampage in the first innings secured a 170-run first-innings lead, before 108 to Kumar Sangakkara and Rangana Herath’s five-wicket haul delivered the 208-run win.Sri Lanka’s fifth-day fight at Bellerive Oval that had delayed Australia’s victory until the final hour constituted a more meritorious showing than the innings-loss at the Centurion, and Sangakkara was hopeful that a lift in performance would be easier to achieve for this year’s Boxing Day Test. The MCG surface is also expected to be more given to turn than the Hobart pitch.”I think Durban is a great example of how we bounced back,” Sangakkara said. “We went there knowing that that was a wicket that’s more suited for our style of play. Centurion I don’t think anyone has experienced in a long time the kind of wicket we got. Here again similar sort of scenario. Different sides of course, but the only different is that the conditions might not be as spin friendly as it was in Durban. But we have three to four fast bowlers who can do a job for us.”Sri Lanka are likely to field the same seam attack that played in the first Test, where the fast men were economical in patches, but lacked penetration until reverse swing arrived in earnest on the fourth day. Welegedara collected six of the eight wickets taken by Sri Lanka’s seam bowlers, having found pace and rhythm in the second innings, which he had lacked in the first. Shaminda Eranga was also intermittently wayward, but delivered tight spells in patches, surpassing 140 kph regularly, while Nuwan Kulasekara was reliable but wicketless.”With our bowling I think we have got to be we have to be more consistent and put pressure on batsmen. It doesn’t matter that we can’t bowl at 145 or 145. What matters is that we put the ball in the right areas. A good ball is a good ball for anyone. We have the skills to do that. On occasions like Boxing Day Test Matches it’s important that we get everything together.”That said we have three to four fast bowlers who can do the job for us. It’s interesting to see how people step up. You need to look at our fast-bowling line-up and each one is different and each on has got the ability to go out there and take those wickets. If we go out there with a positive frame of mind knowing that we have done the hard work at training, it will be a good game.”Sangakkara also called for increased resolve from Sri Lanka’s experienced top order, who had slipped to 87 for 4 in Hobart, before a strong partnership from Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews revived the innings. The top order had also collectively had a poor series against New Zealand, in two Tests at home, though various players had passed fifty in different innings.”It’s great that we are playing a Boxing Day Test Match. It’s important that we realise that it’s a great occasion and also understand where we went wrong in the first Test. First innings is always important, especially when you are playing good sides. We really need to buckle down and put on a good enough total for our bowlers to be able to put pressure on the opposition from that position onwards.”

England suffered their second successive defeat in a tour game as their bowlers failed to defend 295 against Delhi at the Kotla in seemingly bowling-friendly conditions. The ineffectiveness of the bowlers against a side possessing only a couple of known players is a worrying sign for Ashley Giles, the coach, ahead of the first ODI that begins in three days’ time on a likely flat track in Rajkot.Choosing to bat first, the England batting clicked after they had collapsed to 175 all out in the previous warm-up match. Ian Bell followed up his 91 against India A with a century that helped other players to attack around him and post a daunting 294. However, they were not prepared for a backlash from Shikhar Dhawan, the Delhi opener, whose aggressive hundred set the tone for the other batsmen as Delhi overhauled the target comfortably in the penultimate over.While Bell’s innings had been scratchy, Dhawan’s was dominating right through. Whether it was Jade Dernbach, Stuart Meaker, Steven Finn or Chris Woakes, Dhawan played freely against them all. He drove majestically and was quick to pull anything short, the extra pace offered by the England bowlers suiting his strokeplay. When Meaker pitched short to him, he pulled one deep into the stands at midwicket for one of his three sixes.Dhawan, who has been on the fringes of India selection for sometime, also staked his claim for the opener’s role in the national XI. Virender Sehwag, India’s regular opener, has already been dropped and Gautam Gambhir’s position at the top isn’t any firmer.His 100 came off 98 balls with a slog-swept six off Tredwell. Dhawan also found solid support from 21-year-old batsman Milind Kumar, who remained unbeaten on 78.The Delhi batsmen, though, were helped by some wayward bowling by the England bowlers, who were also a touch short throughout the innings. The seamers were taken for 188 runs in 30.3 overs on a track where the India and Pakistan fast bowlers found help a couple of days ago.James Tredwell, deputising for the rested Graeme Swann, accepted that England needed to improve markedly in the opening ODI against India in Friday.”It’s obviously not been ideal,” he said. “We like to go in and win these games but we’ve not hit our skills in the way we’d have liked. We need to make some improvements in the next couple of days. We didn’t hit our lengths consistently enough to build pressure over periods of time.”The result is irrelevent, but to be able to turn it around in the next couple of days going into the first ODI is crucial. We all have massive pride in our performances so when things don’t go to plan it’s disappointing. We can build on that disappointment and put it right going into the first game.”While the bowling attack suffered, England’s experienced batsmen made most of their time in the middle. Apart from Bell, three other batsmen – Alastair Cook, Eoin Morgan and Craig Keiswetter – made useful contributions and got the much-needed batting practice ahead of the five-match series.Bell, who opened the batting along with Cook, looked uncomfortable initially as the ball didn’t come on to the bat and seamer Parwinder Awana troubled him with a tight line outside off. But he saw through the period by dropping anchor at his end and letting Cook play aggressively.Cook, the England captain, was in good touch and two of his shots – a cover drive and a backfoot punch through cover-point – both off Awana, stood out. He scored 44 before seamer Sumit Narwal breached his defence, but an opening stand of 70 had already given the visitors a good start.Although Joe Root and Samit Patel missed out, Morgan and Kieswetter attacked in the latter half of the innings, scoring 52 and 41 respectively, to put up a strong total. The bowling today, however, let the advantage slip through.
