Australia’s team for the first Test was well prepared, well drilled, well motivated and well selected. So much so that not even a spiteful Galle pitch could upset its progress against opponents who were far less steady in their make-up and attitude. Michael Clarke rejoiced after a job well done in his first Test as full-time captain and selector, and saved special praise for Ryan Harris, who was playing his first international match since returning from an ankle fracture.The composition of the team had been in doubt until match eve, when Clarke announced that the childhood friends and bowlers, Trent Copeland and Nathan Lyon, would debut together. The state of the pitch had caused debate over the need for two spinners, but Copeland and Lyon were the ideal additions to a team that successfully strangled Sri Lanka’s batting after posting 273 on day one.”Definitely [it was satisfying to choose the right team]. Yes we could have picked two spinners but I guess we as selectors thought that we had the right group of eleven players to take the field for this Test match,” Clarke said. “I was confident that we could win the game with the eleven players.”I’m sure Kandy’s going to be a different surface now, with the way this game turned out, and we’ll reassess in Kandy. I think that’s important for us as a selection group, that we do pick what we feel is the best eleven for the conditions for that given game.”It’s very easy while you’re winning to stick with the same team but, as I said to all the boys in that changing room, what’s going to help us have success over a long period of time is a good group, a strong squad and that’s not just the 15 players here. That’s all the contracted players being on one page, going in the same direction.”At least one change is guaranteed, as Ricky Ponting leaves to be present for the birth of his second child. Shaun Marsh will be in line to debut at No. 6 while Usman Khawaja moves back up to No. 3. David Warner has been called up as the standby batsman. Warner’s rise as a potential Test player has been dramatic, but there are no greater stories of reinvention in the current side than that of Harris.Starting out as an injury-prone medium pacer with South Australia, Harris is now the most effective bowler in the Test team, offering pace, movement and a huge heart for hard work and the contest. In addition to his ankle, healed after a fracture during the Melbourne Ashes Test, Harris bowls on a wonky knee. Clarke hoped the joint would hold out for some time yet.”Hopefully to the end of my career,” Clarke said. “What a bowler. What a bloke. A great guy to have in your team. Will do anything for the team and at any stage, give him the new ball, give him the old ball, even into the breeze, he doesn’t care. He loves playing for Australia and we love having him around. He’s in pretty good hands I think. Alex [Kountouris], our physio, is a genius. He manages to keep a lot of us on the park daily so I’m really confident we can keep Rhino [Harris] around for a bit longer yet.”Australia’s victory was held up by Angeo Mathews and Mahela Jaywardene, but Clarke said he had been hanging out for the arrival of the second new ball to scythe through the rest.”I think today certainly, once the hardness went out of the ball, the wicket didn’t have as much oomph in it. It seemed pretty dead to be honest,” Clarke said. “Even the spin was slower spin off the wicket, wasn’t such sharp turn. I’d hate to say the toss did determine the game, but I know I wouldn’t have liked to be chasing, or for Sri Lanka to have 280 on the board at the end of day one after knowing what it was like to bat out there.”Cradling a 1-0 lead into Kandy, Clarke promised there would be no slackening in effort, saying his men had arrived in Sri Lanka with three victories, and not one, in mind. “We know we’ve got to be at our best, and there’s certainly areas of our game that need to improve from this match, but I think overall we played some really good positive cricket,” Clarke said. “The most important thing is we had our plans. We stuck to them through thick and thin.”We supported each other, whether that was in the field with the bowlers, our tail wagged with the bat, there’s so many things that we did really well throughout the Test match. No doubt we have to turn up for the next Test and be at our best again. We know it’s going to be tough to play here but we didn’t come here to win one Test match, we’ve come to win three Test matches.”

Alberto Valentim não será mais o treinador do Botafogo após a Copa do Mundo da Rússia. O técnico de 43 anos, que chegou ao clube em fevereiro e venceu o Estadual, aceitou oferta de um clube do Oriente Médio e já informou à diretoria a sua decisão. O elenco do Glorioso já está ciente da saída do comandante.

O próximo clube de Alberto Valentim ainda não foi revelado, mas os valores da oferta foram determinantes para que o profissional decidisse pela saída. Pelo lado do Botafogo, o pedido de demissão ainda não é oficializado pela diretoria.

Alberto Valentim assumiu o comando do Botafogo no dia 14 de fevereiro, após a demissão de Felipe Conceição, e encontrou um cenário de “terra arrasada” após a eliminação da equipe na primeira fase da Copa do Brasil, para o Aparecidense-GO, e derrota para o Flamengo na semifinal da Taça Guanabara.

O time deu a volta por cima e conquistou o Campeonato Estadual de forma épica, com Joel Carli marcando o gol do título sobre o Vasco nos acréscimos.

Foram 25 partidas à frente do Botafogo, com 11 vitórias, sete empates e sete derrotas. Antes do Glorioso, Alberto Valentim havia dirigido o Palmeiras, de forma interina no fim de 2017, e o Red Bull Brasil – no início do ano passado.

ويستعد الأهلي للمشاركة في كأس العالم للأندية للمرة الثالثة على التوالي والثامنة في تاريخه، حيث يتواجد الأحمر في هذه النسخة بصفته وصيف دوري أبطال إفريقيا، بسبب تنظيم المغرب للبطولة، ويمثلها الوداد البيضاوي، الذي كان قد فاز بلقب الأميرة السمراء.

ويلاقي الأهلي فريق أوكلاند سيتي مساء الأربعاء المقبل الموافق 1 فبراير، ضمن منافسات الجولة الأولى لكأس العالم للأندية بالمغرب.

وعرض مسؤولو فيفا واللجنة المنظمة كافة التفاصيل الخاصة بالبطولة، والمستجدات التنظيمية واللوائح التي سيتم تطبيقها.

وخاض الأهلي مرانه الأول صباح اليوم الأحد بملعب سانية الرمل باستاد تطوان بالمغرب.

كما انتظم لاعبو الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالأهلي، في جلسة التصوير الرسمية الخاصة بـ فيفا، وفقًا للقواعد المنظمة لبطولة كأس العالم للأندية، التي تستضيفها المغرب خلال الفترة من 1-12 فبراير المقبل.

وأدى اللاعبون جلسة التصوير بزي الفريق الرسمي، الذي يشارك به في كأس العالم للأندية.

A saída de Alberto Valentim não estava nos planos da diretoria do Botafogo, que agora corre contra o tempo para encontrar um novo comandante no mercado. A ideia é ter essa definição, no mais tardar, até segunda, quando o elenco se reapresenta após as férias durante o início do Mundial da Rússia.

A curta inter-temporada é tratada como fundamental para o bom desempenho do Botafogo na segunda parte do ano. Além da recuperação física dos atletas, ajustes táticos e técnicos podem ser feitos pelo futuro comandante da equipe.

Se não houver acerto, Bruno Lazaroni – auxiliar técnico permanente – fica no comando da equipe interinamente. Atualmente, o Botafogo ainda tem outro auxiliar técnico: Fernando Miranda, que chegou em General Severiano junto com Alberto Valentim, no mês de fevereiro, e não deve permanecer no clube.

No segundo semestre de 2018, o Botafogo terá as atenções voltadas para duas frentes. No Campeonato Brasileiro, o time ocupa o nono lugar com 17 pontos e almeja a classificação para a Libertadores do ano que vem. Na Sul-Americana, o Alvinegro enfrentará o Nacional-PAR, na segunda fase. Os confrontos serão nos dias 1º e 16 de agosto. O Glorioso decidirá a vaga no Estádio Nilton Santos.

Injured medium-pacer Keegan Meth and allrounder Elton Chigumbura, who picked up a knee injury on match eve, are the only absentees from the squad which memorably beat Bangladesh earlier this month in Zimbabwe’s return to Tests after six years. قرر مدرب فريق ليفربول، يورجن كلوب، استبعاد لاعب خط الوسط آرثر ميلو من القائمة المشاركة في مراحل خروج المغلوب في دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وتمتلك الأندية الحق في إجراء ثلاثة تغييرات قبل بداية مراحل خروج المغلوب في البطولات الأوروبية.

ويخوض ليفربول مباراة هذا الشهر ضد ريال مدريد، في إطار منافسات دور الـ16 من بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا، موسم 2022/23.

وقرر كلوب إجراء تغيير على القائمة المشاركة حيث استبعد لاعب خط الوسط البرازيلي آرثر ميلو.

كان آرثر قد انضم إلى ليفربول قادمًا من يوفنتوس، الصيف الماضي على سبيل الإعارة لمدة موسم، ولكنه لم يشارك إلا لبضع دقائق ضد نابولي في أكتوبر الماضي حيث عانى من إصابة في الفخذ منذ ذلك الوقت، وخضع لعملية جراحية.

كذلك قرر كلوب استبعاد اللاعب كالفين رامزي من قائمة ليفربول في مراحل خروج المغلوب من البطولة نفسها، حيث لم يشارك إلا في مباراتين فقط منذ انتقاله من أبردين في الصيف الماضي.

ولم يكن ليفربول في حاجة إلى استبعاد لاعب ثالث من قائمته في دوري الأبطال، بعدما أضاف لاعب خط الوسط الشاب ستيفان بايتيتش إلى قائمة الفريق ب، حيث كان في النادي لأكثر من عامين.

The 24-year-old Worcestershire allrounder took more wickets than any other off-spinner in Division One of the Championship in the 2011 season (albeit a modest 18 at 51 apiece) and also scored 930 runs at an average of 33.That allround ability subsequently won Moeen a place in England’s potential performance squad and, along with a few of the other batsmen and spinners in that squad, he will remain in Sri Lanka after the three-week training camp in Colombo. The players will be allocated first-class teams and benefit from playing for another seven weeks in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.The inference is that a role in the Test side – probably batting at six and fulfilling the role of second spinner – is just about within Moeen’s grasp. While there are several players ahead of him in the queue at present, most have question-marks against them; Panesar, for instance, has few pretensions as a batsman or a fielder, while Patel’s fitness remains an issue.Whatever happens, if England do need to call upon Moeen in Sri Lanka, it will surely prove beneficial that he has experience of the conditions. O Vasco chega nesta sexta-feira ao quinto dia de treinamentos durante esta paralisação do Campeonato Brasileiro por conta da Copa do Mundo da Rússia. Um dos maiores desafios até o dia 16 de julho, quando retornam os jogos com a volta das oitavas de final da Copa do Brasil diante do Bahia, é a de o técnico Jorginho ter todo o elenco à disposição. E é neste caminho que a comissão técnica e o departamento médico vem trabalhando no planejamento do trabalho implantado nesta semana no CT das Vargens, em Vargem Pequena, Zona Oeste do Rio de Janeiro.

Somente três jogadores estão ausentes no momento, e sem prazo definido para voltar: o goleiro Martin Silva, que está servindo o Uruguai no Mundial, o atacante Rildo, que passou em maio por cirurgia no ombro esquerdo e não deve mais jogar em 2018, além do volante Marcelo Mattos, que desde 2016 se recupera de lesões e ainda não conseguiu voltar a campo. Os demais jogadores que estavam em recuperação antes da parada da Copa do Mundo – como Rafael Galhardo, Breno, Bruno Silva, Thiago Galhardo, Wagner e Kelvin – são os quem a comissão mira para o retorno durante este período sem jogos.

– Nossa ideia é que esses atletas que estavam fora estejam aptos para o primeiro jogo após o retorno do recesso, pois entraremos em campo precisando vencer por uma diferença de três gols. São jogadores de suma importância, o Jorginho conta com eles para essa partida. Já foram liberados pelo departamento médico, mas estão sendo monitorados nos treinamentos em virtude do tempo inativo. Dando tudo certo, fazendo um trabalho de qualidade, acredito que estarão em plenas condições de serem inseridos no contexto do jogo – afirmou Joelton Urtiga, preparador físico do Vasco antes de completar:

– Esse período é fundamental para nós, principalmente por termos tempo de realizar as avaliações e preparar o time da melhor maneira para a sequência da temporada. Até o momento, além da parte neuromuscular, fizemos avaliações de potência e força. Identificamos se os atletas possuem algum tipo de problema com a mobilidade muscular. Os resultados estão sendo satisfatórios e nos deram parâmetros para monitorar a carga de trabalho e organizar a sessão de treinamentos com o Jorginho, de uma forma que minimize o número de lesões e contribua para o crescimento físico de todo o grupo.

Todo este trabalho neste período sem jogos está sendo valorizado também pelo elenco do Vasco. O meia Wagner, de 33 anos, um dos jogadores mais experientes do grupo cruz-maltino, destacou que o ideal para os jogadores de futebol era o de todo mês de junho possuir uma parada de ao menos sete dias, visando a um maior descanso dos atletas diante de um calendário apertado no futebol brasileiro. Ele aproveitou ainda para citar a intensidade do trabalho que vem sendo promovido pelo técnico Jorginho junto aos jogadores chegando nesta sexta-feira ao quinto dia.

– Por mim, a parada poderia acontecer durante todos anos, pelo menos durante sete dias no mês de junho. O desgaste é muito grande, com jogos quarta e domingo. Em ano de Copa do Mundo, o calendário se torna ainda mais encurtado na questão de descanso e acabamos precisando jogar a cada dois ou três dias, sem contar nas viagens. Deu para dar uma zerada e tirar todo mundo do departamento médico. O Jorginho está tendo que dividir o grupo três por estar todo mundo à disposição. Isso vai causar uma dor de cabeça boa e que todo treinador quer para montar o time. Vamos retornar mais fortes – disse para completar:

– O Jorginho está fazendo um pouquinho de cada. Está pegando aquilo que a gente tinha de bom e ajustando uma ou outra coisinha que estávamos errando e ele acha que pode ser feita de forma difente. Ele tem ouvido e perguntando muito o que achamos antes de tomar qualquer atitude. Isso é muito bom, ainda mais vindo de um cara que foi campeão de mundo. Os treinos são focados mais na nossa pegada e e exigem nossa atenção. Precisamos ser mais agressivos, no bom sentido, e não deixarmos o adversário pensar tanto, encurtar os espaços o quanto antes.

Vale lembrar a programação do Vasco durante a paralisação do Campeonato Brasileiro por conta da Copa do Mundo da Rússia: os primeiros 11 dias foram de férias para os jogadores, que se reapresentaram na última segunda-feira no CT das Vargens. As atividades na capital fluminense seguem até domingo, quando a delegação viaja para Pinheiral, cidade no sul do Rio de Janeiro, onde ficará por uma semana em regime de concentração total no planejamento para o segundo semestre. A preparação após esta data voltará ao CT das Vargens. Em diversos dias treinos em período integral serão realizados – nesta semana, inclusive, já ocorreram em duas oportunidades.

Após ter confirmado o atacante argentino Maxi López no último sábado, o Vasco segue no mercado de olho em outros reforços para o setor visando um melhor semestre. – Estamos sempre atentos ao mercado e possíveis fortalecimentos ao grupo de jogadores. O Gilbert Álvarez é um jogador que estamos negociando, tem bons números, mas o presidente do Jorge Wilstermann está dificultando a negociação. E está no direito dele, tem números muito interessantes. Não vamos fugir da nossa austeridade financeira. Podemos evoluir, mas se ele seguir dificultando, vamos encerrar a negociação – explicou Alexandre Faria, diretor executivo de futebol do Vasco, em coletiva após o treino deste domingo em São Januário.

A negociação do Vasco por Maxi López também foi explicada pelo Vasco neste domingo. Diferentemente do boliviano, o argentino estava livre e já fechou com o clube um contrato até o fim de 2019. La Barbie, como é conhecido, desembarca no Rio de Janeiro nesta segunda-feira para realizar os exames médicos e assinar o contrato. Existe a expectativa de o atleta ser apresentado aos torcedores antes de a bola rolar para a partida diante do Bahia, pela noite, em São Januário, na volta das oitavas de final da Copa do Brasil.

– Em relação ao Maxi López, conseguimos avançar de uma forma até rápida, de acordo com a concorrência que tínhamos. Tudo o que apresentamos do Vasco foi o suficiente para seduzí-lo. Desde a primeira conversa que tivemos, ele deixou nítido que queria vir. Quando fechamos a contratação, isso ficou ainda mais claro, porque os números não fogem nem um pouco da austeridade financeira proposta pela diretoria.
