Leeds fans unhappy with Conor Shaughnessy performance

Conor Shaughnessy turned out for Leeds United’s Under-23 outfit in their 2-2 drawn with Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s on Monday.

The 22-year-old played in midfield rather than in central defence, and looked extremely uncomfortable during his time on the field.

The former Under-21 Republic of Ireland international eventually picked up an injury which meant that he could not complete the match.

And the Leeds fans were not impressed with his performance for the Under-23s.

Shaughnessy came through the youth system at Reading before joining Leeds in 2016, and made his first-team debut for the Whites in August 2017.

The defender picked up a serious ankle injury in January though, which saw him miss the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign.

Shaughnessy returned to action in the EFL Cup against Preston North End last month, and will now be looking to play his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s team.

West Brom fans are spot on: Baggies must secure permanent Harvey Barnes deal

West Brom supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their team pick up their fourth Championship victory of the season on Tuesday night.

Darren Moore’s men went into their encounter with Bristol City off the back of a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City a few days earlier, and thus seeking to get back to winning ways at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night. And they did just that with an impressive performance as a brace from Jay Rodriguez alongside goals from Dwight Gayle and Harvey Barnes inspired the Baggies to a 4-2 win over the Robins, with goals from Lloyd Kelly and Famara Diedhiou proving to be nothing more than consolations for the visitors.

As such, there have been many thrilled West Brom fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been taking the Twitter in recent times to rave about winger Barnes, with many calling for their club to make his loan move permanent in the near future.

And those Baggies fans calling on their side to do just that are absolutely spot on, as based on the 20-year-old’s efforts so far for the Midlands club, securing his services permanently would surely prove to be a transfer masterstroke.

Ultimately, the attacker made the move to the Hawthorns back in July of this year on loan from Midlands rivals Leicester City, this all after temporary stints at MK Dons and Barnsley in the last few years.

And in impressing during his time at Oakwell last term, in which he scored five goals and laid on five assists in 23 Championship games for the Tykes, there was much excitement and expectation among Baggies fans when he arrived at West Brom – and he has so far failed to disappoint.

The 20-year-old has been absolutely magnificent for Moore’s side this season in netting three goals and laying on two assists in eight Championship appearances for the club, with arguably his best performance coming on Tuesday night given he scored and indeed set up two as the Baggies brushed aside Lee Johnson’s Bristol City – he has been a revelation.

And at the tender age of 20, there is little doubting that the England Under-20 international has a supremely bright future ahead of him in the game – and where better for him to fulfil that potential than playing regularly at West Brom.

Yes, Leicester will obviously have something to say about that given he is their player and they too will see a huge amount of potential in him, but the fact they were happy to sanction his loan for the entirety of this season suggests that he is not in Claude Puel’s first team thoughts.

Yet Barnes is very much a key part of things at West Brom and will likely play a vital part in what success they have this term, which is why it is not overly surprising to see Baggies fans calling for Moore and the club’s hierarchy to seal a permanent deal for the 20-year-old.

And based on his efforts so far, it would undoubtedly be a masterstroke.

HYS: Would Ramsey fit into Klopp’s Liverpool team?

[ad_pod ]

Aaron Ramsey has not always been the most consistent player during his 10-year spell at Arsenal, but he has scored some important goals in that time.

While wearing the red and white of the Gunners, the midfielder has scored 59 goals and racked up 59 assists.

At the moment, it looks as though the Wales international will be searching for a new club either in January or at the end of the season.

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal have withdrawn an offer of a new four-year contract for Ramsey.

It is unknown why the deal is now off the table, but the news is sure to spark the attention of potential suitors.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Ramsey in the past, but the club are not exactly short of midfielders.

Fabinho and Naby Keita arrived in the summer, while the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also on Liverpool’s books.

Would Jurgen Klopp benefit from having Ramsey in his team?

Manchester City should be keeping a close watch on this £7.2m-rated Brazilian starlet

Manchester City chucked away the chance to win three points at Liverpool this weekend, as Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty at Anfield.

A 0-0 draw is not the end of the world though, and Pep Guardiola and his men will move on into the international window and hope to come back with renewed intent as they seek to retain their Premier League title.

With January fast approaching, Guardiola will no doubt be keeping a close eye on proceedings around the footballing world, as he looks to keep adding the best talent available.

One player at the Tavern have identified as a potential signing if Brazilian youngster Eder Militao, who has made his debut for Brazil only this season.

The £7.2m-rated Porto defender would appear to have all the potential in the world to go on and be a star, and at just 21 years of age, time is certainly on his side.

Despite only making his move to Europe in August of this year, Militao already looks to be the sort of player who can on to be a huge success in Europe, much like his Brazilian counterparts Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

City have a whole host of young talent available to them, but they will be keen to keep ahead of the game by adding the best young talent available, and Eder certainly fits into that mould.

City fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!

Pundit’s Choice: Pep Guardiola vs Jurgen Klopp

Manchester City supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side get their Champions League campaign off and running with victory on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s men went into their clash with Hoffenheim off the back of losing 2-1 to Lyon in their opening group stage match, thus piling the pressure on the Citizens to hit back with victory over the Bundesliga side. And they did just that as goals from Sergio Aguero and David Silva inspired the Premier League champions to a 2-1 success on Tuesday night, thus putting them right back in contention for a place in the knockout stages.

Thus, there have been many thrilled City fans up and down the country at recent times, several of whom are eagerly anticipating their side’s clash with fellow Premier League title rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with both teams seeking to underline their title credentials with victory.

And several City supporters are likely to be intrigued by recent comments from Sky Sports journalist Nick Wright, who suggests that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is Guardiola’s ‘biggest problem’, and given the Citizens’ evident struggles against the Reds last term, it’s hard to disagree with his accurate verdict.

Ultimately, Guardiola’s men won the Premier League at a canter last season in finishing 19 points clear of second place Manchester United, but if there was one team that found a way to be successful against the dominant Citizens, it was Klopp’s Liverpool.

Other than their 5-0 mauling at the hands of City early in the campaign, the Reds won each of the three subsequent meetings between the two, bringing their unbeaten league record to an end in a 4-3 thriller at Anfield back in January, before easing past the Citizens 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Thus, while Klopp’s side were unable to derail their march towards the Premier League title, they prevented Guardiola’s men from going on a deep run in the Champions League, doing so by thumping them 3-0 at Anfield in the first leg, before doing a job and winning 2-1 in the second leg – Klopp clearly got one over on the Spaniard.

And that is why this weekend’s match is so crucial for both teams, as Liverpool under Klopp know they have the measure of City under Guardiola, and as such it is up to the latter to prove that he does indeed have the answers at Anfield on Sunday.

Clearly, no manager last season gave Guardiola as many problems as Klopp did with Liverpool, and while Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea have made a fine start to the campaign, it looks as though this weekend’s clash could be significant as to where the title ends up come May – thus, Guardiola has to find a way.

And Wright is accurate in suggesting that Klopp is indeed Guardiola’s ‘biggest problem’, as while City lost out to United and drew with the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Huddersfield Town last term, they were superior in pretty much all of those games – that wasn’t the case against Liverpool in their last three meetings with the Reds.

Thus, while things have been going brilliantly for Guardiola at City in the last 15 months or so, there is little doubting that Klopp is proving to be something of a problem for the Spaniard – indeed his ‘biggest problem’ as Wright accurately suggests.

West Bromwich Albion fans rage on Twitter after club’s fixtures are changed for TV

One of the biggest enjoyments for plenty of football fans when the fixture lists come out is to plan which games to attend.

However, those plans can be thrown up in the air when dates are changed for broadcasting reasons.

This week, West Bromwich Albion announced that their away trip to face Ipswich Town has been rearranged for Friday, November 23.

Also, their home clash against Aston Villa, who now have John Terry as assistant manager, has been moved to December 7.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”305269″ player=”12034″ title=”Are Emery’s Arsenal Silently Gunning For The Title”]

The news of the newly-arranged Friday fixtures have not gone down well with supporters, as many will now have to alter their plans after buying a ticket.

The reason for the scheduling change is down to Sky Sports, who have picked up the pair for broadcasting.

At the moment, the Baggies are enjoying a positive run in the Championship as they sit second in the table, one point adrift of leaders Sheffield United after 12 games.

West Ham keen on talented Marshall labelled as ‘new Raheem Sterling’

[ad_pod ]

West Ham have been named amongst four English sides interested in signing Jamaican talent Alex Marshall, according to TeamTalk.

What’s the word?

Despite a spending spree that exceeded £100m in the summer West Ham have struggled to find their feet in the Premier League this season by losing five of their opening eight matches, and further additions in January are likely.

While the club is crying out for defensive reinforcements, TeamTalk suggests West Ham still have their eye on attacking additions as the Hammers are named alongside Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa as being interested in Jamaican talent Alex Marshall.

The 20-year-old is labelled the ‘new Raheem Sterling’ and has earned seven caps for Jamaica despite his tender age, leading to increased attention in his services due to his exciting talents.

Worth a move?

With comparisons to Manchester City star Raheem Sterling, interest in Marshall was always going to be drummed up and he has a decent return of eight goals in 33 matches playing for Jamaican side Cavalier. However, making the jump to the Premier League is a huge challenge.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”307232″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Germany Hit New Low & Jadon Sancho Makes Us Feel Old”]

West Ham already have Marko Arnautovic, Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson, Lucas Perez and Michail Antonio as options in the wide areas of their attack, so it is not clear where exactly the young talent would fit into Pellegrini’s squad.

The addition would also potentially be bad news for another young winger in Grady Diangana, who must be on the periphery of his manager’s thoughts following his display in the 8-0 win against Macclesfield Town last month.

Revealed: Arsenal fans think Iwobi is more valuable to Emery than Ramsey or Mkhitaryan

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal fans are revelling in an 11-game win streak and certainly saw the benefit of Alex Iwobi against Leicester City on Monday night.

The forward Arsene Wenger handed a debut to always appeared inconsistent and missing direction under the Frenchman, but the leadership of Unai Emery has brought out a new side to the Nigerian.

Often finding pockets of space amongst the Leicester defence, Iwobi proved pivotal in helping his Gunners side overturn Ben Chilwell’s opener after 37 minutes when a deflection from Hector Bellerin wrong footed Bernd Leno in goal.

When Emery felt substitutes were needed in the second half to usurp the Foxes’ momentum, the exit of Henrik Mkhitaryan for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was another indication of how much faith the manager has in the adaptable forward, who shifted over from the left flank to right with ease.

With the 46-year-old Spanish coach favouring a rolling front line with his forwards interchanging, Iwobi’s adaptability is likely one of the many reasons 76% of Arsenal fans hailed the Nigerian in a recent Football FanCast poll as more valuable to his manager than the experienced legs of Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey.

Marc Barta could help Manchester United build a new defence

Jose Mourinho had Anthony Martial to thank as Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 at the weekend.

Paul Pogba handed the Red Devils to lead from the penalty spot (well, kind of) and Martial netted his third goal in three games to double their advantage after the interval. Gylfi Sigurdsson responded with a penalty of his own with just ten minutes remaining, but United held on for all three points. United will be hoping to build on the win with another positive result against high flying Bournemouth next week.

United remain five points behind Arsenal in fourth after an inconsistent start to the campaign. Mourinho was desperate to strengthen his squad in the summer; however, the United board failed to land the targets on his shortlist. Luckily for the former Chelsea boss, reports suggest the Portuguese will be backed significantly in January and a new defender remains top of priority list.

One man he should target is Real Betis defender – Marc Bartra. Valued at £15.75m by Transfermarkt, the former Barcelona man returned to La Liga in January after spending two years with Borussia Dortmund. Despite failing to reach the heights expected of him in Germany, Bartra quickly rediscovered his best form and was named Betis’ Player of the Year following a superb six months with his new side.

The 27-year-old has continued his excellent form into the new season, and United should definitely try to lure him to the Premier League. Mourinho had been vocal about bolstering his defence and Bartra would be a massive upgrade to his current crop. A fantastic passer of the ball, completing 90% of his passes this season, the Spaniard is also a brilliant tackler and reads the game expertly – averaging 2.6 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game in La Liga. The former Spain international also excels in the air, winning 2.4 aerial duels per game on average (WhoScored).

Bartra could be the answer to Mourinho’s problems in January.

Revealed: Majority of Arsenal fans want Xhaka moved into midfield to replace Guendouzi

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal youngster Matteo Guendouzi has been somewhat of a revelation this season since his summer move from French second division side FC Lorient, but the Gunners will be without the 19-year-old for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday after he was sent off in the Carabao Cup win over Blackpool in midweek.

Guendouzi has now made 12 appearances at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield in all competitions and he looks to be forming a strong partnership with fellow summer-signing Lucas Torreira.

In his absence though, a majority 41% of Arsenal fans polled wanted Granit Xhaka to move back into central midfield having played the last few games at left-back thanks to the injuries suffered by Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.

Against Blackpool Carl Jenkinson made his first start for almost two years and even if the first-choice pair are injured at left-back, Xhaka should no longer be needed as cover.

Second place in our poll was, rather surprisingly, youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles, although his mobility could be a key factor in this against a dynamic Liverpool side.

Check out the full results of the poll below.
