Daniel Levy Set For "Crucial" Kane Talks At Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur's conversations with Bayern Munich over Harry Kane are set to enter the "crucial stages" over the coming week as the German behemoths are determined to "close the deal as soon as possible", per Fabrizio Romano.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

The transfer window has gone very well for new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou so far this year. Not only have they managed to bolster the squad with the free signing of Manor Solomon, but they have also splashed the cash somewhat to sign the £40m James Maddison and the £17m Guglielmo Vicario – two players who should improve the first team.

That said, all of this promising business has yet again been completed under the dark cloud of a Kane transfer saga, with perennial winners Bayern the club looking to lure him away from N17.

The German giants have already had two offers rejected by the Lilywhites – the second being worth £70m – but are increasingly confident they will eventually land their man.

The two clubs are set for crunch talks this week, with the Bavarians believing that Daniel Levy and Co are warming to selling their star striker, per the Daily Mail.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested should the deal not happen, but the same publication has reported that Kane has set his 'heart on Bavaria' should he leave this summer.

Transfers expert Fabrizio Romano explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"We are entering into a crucial week for Harry Kane because early [this] week, could be Monday, the discussion between Bayern and Tottenham will enter crucial stages with a meeting with Daniel Levy.

"The meeting had to be Friday; then Daniel Levy decided to reschedule the meeting. Now the meeting will take place. Let's see how the conversation will go, but Bayern remain confident, and PSG [are] keeping an eye on the situation in case Bayern's deal collapses.

"But Bayern remain the favorites and Bayern want to close the deal as soon as possible. So, an important week for the future of Harry Kane with Bayern and pushing on that one."

Who was Tottenham Hotspurs' most expensive sale?

With Kane set to cost potentially £100m this summer, where would that put him on the list of the most expensive player sales in Spurs history?

The bronze medal goes to Dimitar Berbatov, who was sold to Premier League rivals Manchester United in 2008 for £31m, Spurs' most expensive sale at the time.

The Bulgarian would score 56 goals and provide 27 assists for the Red Devils in one of the most trophy-laden periods in their history.

The number two spot goes to a player still playing in England, Kyle Walker. The England international left Spurs for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the summer of 2017 in a deal worth £45m – making him the most expensive fullback in the world at the time.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.

The Sheffield-born star has since gone on to win practically everything there is to win at the domestic level for City, topping it all off with a Champions League trophy in June.

Number one is – unsurprisingly – Gareth Bale. The lightning-quick Welshman left north London for Real Madrid in 2013 for £85m – a British record at the time.

While his time in Spain might've ended in an unfortunate way, he, much like Walker, won everything he could for Los Blancos, including five Champions League titles.

Therefore, should Kane be sold for even close to the £100m price that has been reported, he'll easily take the top spot as the most expensive sale in the club's history, and it's hard to say it wouldn't be deserved.

It's James Anderson from the… James Anderson End

England’s leading Test wicket-taker has been honoured by joining Brian Statham in having an end named after him at his home ground

Paul Edwards03-Aug-2017It already seems likely that the first morning of the fourth Test will also feature the game’s loudest and most heartfelt ovation. Whatever England and South Africa’s cricketers do over the next five days, the news that the Pavilion End at Emirates Old Trafford is to be renamed in honour of James Anderson is sure to elicit the warmest of reactions from spectators, some of whom will have watched the seamer make his first-class debut in 2002.David Hodgkiss, Lancashire’s chairman, is to make a presentation to Anderson, who is hopeful his family will be on the ground to see him receive this “amazing honour”. Even in the oft-inflated world of sporting achievement, where people have only to be presented with their dinner to dedicate it to someone or other, this is summat to write home about. In Anderson’s case, of course, the news will be very happily received in Burnley, where the local cricket club has named its function room after him. This will be a deeply Lancastrian occasion. But there will be plenty of patriotism, too. Wherever Anderson has played for England the Barmy Army has belted out its familiar chorus saluting his presence and contribution. No doubt there will be a few renditions on Friday and they will be sung by people who recognise that if Anderson was not playing for England, he might well be sitting with them. So we may have a rather bizarre moment when James Anderson is bowling from the James Anderson End while 20,000 people sing about “Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy Anderson”.”I’m blown away, really, by the gesture from the club,” he acknowledged. “I can’t quite believe it has happened. It is something that usually happens when people have stopped playing or are further down the line. So to have this happen when I’m still playing and potentially bowling from that end in the game is a bit surreal. It is just a huge honour, especially because of the link I have with this club and the love I have for the club. I’ve been here for 15 years and longer than that if you count the years I’ve been supporting the club.”The history stretches deeper than that, though. The renaming of the Pavilion End unites Anderson with Brian Statham, after whom Old Trafford’s other end is named; it therefore brings together, albeit only in the ground’s geography, the two finest Lancastrian seamers of all. While cricket’s historians may offer the names of Dick Pollard or the Burnley-born Harry Dean as candidates for that accolade, probably few would dispute that Statham and Anderson’s combined total of 732 Test wickets secures their right to the title. It is, however, 732 . Anderson’s observation that the honour he had been given was more usually accorded to someone whose career was over allowed him to stress that this was not the situation in his case.”I don’t like looking back on my career too much because I am still playing and I still have things I want to achieve, personally and with this team,” he said. “I’m very grateful that I have got this far in my career but I don’t want to dwell on it right now. In years to come, I’m sure I’ll look back with great fondness but right now I still have things to achieve.”I’ve felt really good in this series. I’m happy I’ve stayed fit and bowled well through the series. Barring me slipping in the shower or a back spasm overnight, I’ll have played all four games. For me, that’s a positive thing. I’ve had a couple of injuries over the last 12-18 months, so staying fit is a priority. Also, bowling well is another thing that is going to help me stay in the side and help this side win games.”Anderson is not short of achievable objectives. He needs 20 more victims to become the sixth bowler in the game’s history to take 500 Test wickets and he has yet to earn himself a place on the Old Trafford honours board by taking five wickets in a Test innings on his home ground. There is another Ashes series looming and this summer’s series against South Africa and West Indies to win. He recognises it will be tough but he is hopeful of remaining fit to play all seven Tests this summer, news which has no doubt been welcomed by his new England captain.”He is as good as ever,” said Joe Root of Anderson. “He brings so much to this dressing room, his experience. What you see out in the middle and the performances he has produced are exceptional. The way he works with the other bowlers and the way they toss ideas around out in the field makes my life a lot easier. To have someone like that to go to when you are under the pump, when you want someone to change the game, is invaluable.”And now Root can also be a party to one of the most delicious, if anachronistically feudal, conversations in the history of the game. “Which end do you want, Jimmy?” he may ask. “My own, please, captain,” can be the reply. Not even Lord Hawke managed that.

'Women's cricket can be on a par with tennis' – Perry

Ellyse Perry believes it is time to move on from comparing women’s cricket with the men’s game and celebrate the female version as a sport in its own right.

Australian star Ellyse Perry believes it is time to move on from comparing women’s cricket with the men’s game and celebrate the female version as a sport in its own right.Speaking on the eve of her first match in the 2017 Kia Super League – Loughborough Lightning’s opening fixture against Western Storm in Taunton on Saturday – Perry sees no reason why women’s cricket should not enjoy the same profile women’s tennis has alongside the men’s game.”If you look at tennis, it is probably the leading sport in terms of male and female equality yet they are really different games as well,” the 26-year-old all-rounder said.”Aside from the obvious difference that one goes for three sets and the other for five at the slams, the way the game is played is different.”People appreciate the games for different reasons, like in the women’s game the rallies go on for longer because the serves are not as hard whereas in the men’s game there is the real power there.”But fans appreciate the two games equally for different reasons and because you’re a fan of men’s tennis doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy women’s tennis too.”Perry, whose Lightning team open their fixtures in a double-header with Somerset’s NatWest Blast match against Kent Spitfires, believes women’s cricket can also succeed because it is different.”Obviously, women are biologically different from men but I think it is time we moved away from comparing women with male players,” she said.”In my mind we are two different sports and so long as we are compared to the men’s game it kind of hamstrings us a bit because you can’t forge your own competition, your own game and your own kind of entertainment for the public.”If you look at the World Cup and the final in front of a full house at Lord’s you saw what a great spectacle it can be and the ECB and the ICC deserve congratulating for the way they staged and promoted a great tournament.”Thanks to her success in cricket and her parallel career in international women’s football, Perry has become a high-profile figure in her native country, the face of women’s sport in Australia. She is also married to the Australian rugby international Matt Toomua, who plays just down the road from Loughborough for Leicester Tigers. Most other female cricketers have some catching up to do in that respect but Perry believes there is enormous potential for top women’s cricketers to become stars in the same way as their male counterparts.”For women’s sports in general, whether it be cricket, soccer or the AFL at home, it is about creating your own identity and product,” she said.”It is not just about the match on the day, it is about developing the stories and the rivalries and bringing the players to the fore in terms of their own stories and personalities in the way they play the game.”There is so much scope for that in the women’s game with great characters and personalities and the World Cup showed it is really possible.”After their away match with Western Storm, Lightning host their two home fixtures in this year’s Kia Super League next week, taking on 2016 champions Southern Vipers at Derby on Tuesday, followed by a clash with Yorkshire Diamonds on Friday at Loughborough. As well as Perry, the Lightning line-up features two more Australian World Cup stars in batter Elyse Villani and leg-spinner Kristen Beams, as well as England World Cup-winners Georgia Elwiss, the captain, and Beth Langston, and 35-times capped wicketkeeper Amy Jones.

Nottingham Forest Could Sign "Phenomenal" Keeper

American international Matt Turner is a "serious candidate for Nottingham Forest" this summer, which could see the potential Dean Henderson deal collapse, per transfers expert Fabrizio Ronmano.

Is Matt Turner joining Nottingham Forest this summer?

In stark contrast to last year, Forest have only paid for two new signings so far this summer; Chris Wood from Newcastle United, who cost £15m and Anthony Elanga from Manchester United, who also cost £15m.

It looks like two could very quickly become three, however, as the Tricky Trees appear set to sign a new number one in the coming weeks.

United's Henderson has been touted for a move to the City Ground for much of the last 12 months following a loan spell last season, but in a surprising turn of events, Steve Cooper's side could be about to sign USMNT star Turner instead.

matt-turner-nottingham-forest-arsenal-transfer-gossip-cooper-joe-worrall

According to The Athletic, Arsenal's potential signing of Brentford's number one, David Raya, could open the door to the 29-year-old's exit, with Forest already in dialogue with him.

As with most deals, the most significant barrier to completion is the club's differing valuations. Arsenal are said to want £18m, considerably more than the Garibaldi would be willing to pay.

While there is still some way to go before a price can be agreed upon, the move certainly threatens to scupper Henderson's chance at returning to the City Ground, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

He explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"Arsenal are going on David Raya because Matt Turner has a chance to go to Nottingham Forest, and this could see the Dean Henderson deal collapse.

"So, let's see who is going to win this race to be the new Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, Matt Turner or Dean Henderson.

"But at the moment, Turner is a serious candidate for Nottingham Forest on a permanent transfer, so this is the idea."

How does Matt Turner compare to Dean Henderson?

With the two keepers potentially vying for the single spot at Forest this summer, who would be the better transfer?

The first thing to note is that neither player made many appearances last season. Turner started 13 games across all competitions as he struggled to dislodge Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates, whereas Henderson started just 18 games due to an injury partway through the campaign.

That said, if we just took last season, the American comes out slightly ahead with an average rating of 6.73 and passing accuracy of 72.3%, per WhoScored. On the other hand, the once-capped Englishman averaged a rating of just 6.57 and a pretty poor passing accuracy of 56.8%, also per WhoScored.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

When it comes to their underlying numbers, it is a bit more even, with the "insane" United man edging it 75.4% to 73.8% for save percentage and 39.5% to 22.5% for clean sheet percentage, per FBref.

However, the former MLS star comes out on top when it comes to passing ability, averaging 21 completed passes per 90 to Henderson's 15.2, and a total passing distance of 652.9 yards per 90 compared to just 540.3, also per FBref.

Ultimately, it looks like Cooper and Forest can't really lose regardless of which keeper they opt for, but perhaps with the "phenomenal" Turner, there is slightly more upside in his ball-playing ability.

Tottenham: Spurs Hold Talks To Sign "Devastating" Star

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks to sign Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie and are weighing a late move for him, according to reports.

Who will Spurs sign?

It's been weeks since Spurs officially confirmed their last major signing in Israel winger Manor Solomon, but reports in the last few days suggest that is about to change.

Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven is rumoured to be closing in on a move to Tottenham, coming as manager Ange Postecoglou seeks to reinforce his back-line before deadine day.

Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips may also be joining the north Londoners, if all goes to plan, and the transfer could happen as soon as this weekend after Spurs activated his £2 million release clause.

The stage is set for a busy final month of the transfer window at Tottenham, especially with all of the noise surrounding Harry Kane's future.

Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who continues to be chased by La Liga side Atletico Madrid, could also depart before September 1 – meaning Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy may have to consider replacements for the Dane.

Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, who is apparently willing to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, has been floated as a target while Kessie is said to be of real interest as well.

The Ivory Coast international found game time difficult to come by at Barca last season after signing on a Bosman deal from AC Milan in 2022.

Kessie could now be available for transfer as reports in Spain indicate Xavi's side are open to selling. This is where Spurs come in, with a report from 90min sharing the latest on their links to the 26-year-old.

According to their information, Tottenham have held talks over the potential signing of Kessie this summer, and are weighing up a late move. The African also has interest from Serie A giants Juventus, who have already made a loan offer to Barca.

Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie.

Kessie himself is open to leaving the Camp Nou with Spurs, Juve and clubs from Saudi Arabia in the mix.

He recently sat out Barca's pre-season win over Milan through injury, but when Xavi was asked about the player's future, he delivered a sharp yet cryptic response, stating: "regarding his future, I can say that he knows exactly what the situation is."

How good is Franck Kessie?

Kessie's best campaign to date came during the 2020/2021 season, where he managed a brilliant 13 goals and four assists in 36 Italian top flight starts for the Rossoneri (WhoScored).

Despite a lack of opportunity at Barca, there is clearly a player of real ability there, and his knack of contributing further forward could make him ideal for Postecoglou.

Commenting on Tottenham's previous links to Kessie, former keeper Paul Robinson believes he could slot into the midfield pretty well.

"Kessie would fit the bill," said Robinson to Football Insider.

"He is strong, quick and effective at both ends of the pitch. He ticks a lot of boxes.

“There is no doubting that he is an amazing player."

If Spurs do in fact move for the £199,000-per-week man, he would come with plenty of potential, with Antonio Cassano also calling him "devastating".

Series lost, Sri Lanka chase assured World-Cup spot

Losses in the final two ODIs may not keep Sri Lanka from automatically qualifying for World Cup 2019 – a lot depends on West Indies – but it’s a risk they will not want to take

The Preview by Andrew Fidel Fernando30-Aug-2017Big PictureRiot police, bottle-throwing, selector resignations, heated debates over cricket in cabinet meetings, and an ever-growing list of injuries – the past few days in Sri Lankan cricket have been as acrimonious as any in recent memory. Every time the situation seems to have reached rock bottom, new depths, somehow, are plumbed. There remain two ODIs in Colombo, however, and though the series has been decided, Sri Lanka are playing for a little more than pride. They must win the two remaining games to seal automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup. Lose them both, and they will automatically qualify only if West Indies win no more than three of their five ODIs against England next month (and do not lose the one-off game to Ireland). If Sri Lanka win one of the remaining games, then they must hope that West Indies do not win all six of their upcoming matches. But so resurgent have West Indies been this week that this is not a chance Sri Lanka will want to take. Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels have also returned to West Indies’ ODI side for that series, a truce with their board having been reached.Where in the Tests Sri Lanka’s toothless bowling set the tone for each dispiriting performance, the batting has been the greater of Sri Lanka’s failings in the ODIs – the top order having failed to sustain whatever little momentum they could generate, and the middle order repeatedly failing to contend with India’s spinners.India, meanwhile, have almost seemed bored on this tour. Several batsmen have buffed their stats, and in the third match Jasprit Bumrah claimed a maiden ODI five-wicket haul, but at times all they have to do is turn up and watch the opposition sabotage themselves. Chamara Kapugedera’s decision to bat first after winning Sri Lanka’s first toss of the series, for example, was baffling – not least to some of his own team-mates.But with the series secure, this is India’s chance to test the depth in their squad. Kuldeep Yadav, who was so impressive in the West Indies, may finally get a run. Ajinkya Rahane or Manish Pandey will hope to earn a spot in the middle order – KL Rahul and Kedar Jadhav having been unconvincing in their two innings so far in the series. Virat Kohli has repeatedly expressed a preference to play his first-choice XI right through this tour, but India might gain more from these matches by giving their fringe players a run.Form guideSri Lanka LLLLL(completed matches, most recent first)
India WWWWLIn the spotlightFor so long one of the cleverest limited-overs operators, Lasith Malinga has the chance to captain Sri Lanka. There is a good argument that in a parallel universe, where Malinga’s ankle and knee joints were not so problematic, and his attitude did not rub people up the wrong way, he could have been a wonderful long-term captain. Upul Tharanga is set to return in the fifth match, but for one match at least, it may be fascinating to get a glimpse of what kind of ODI leader Malinga might have been.In his first 22 innings in Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma had averaged 14.25, and hit only one fifty. In the space of two innings now, he has scored 54 and 124 not out. These are not good signs for Sri Lanka, who have been on the receiving end of one of the great limited-overs onslaughts at Rohit’s hands. In the second half of his innings on Sunday, Rohit began to hit effortless boundaries off good deliveries – a sign that he is nearing his best form. With Shikhar Dhawan also in good nick on this tour, restraining India’s openers represents a major challenge for the hosts.NurPhoto/Getty Images

Team newsOpening batsman Dilshan Munaweera – uncapped in ODIs – has been called up to the squad to cover for Kapugedera. With Dinesh Chandimal out and Danushka Gunathilaka still doubtful for Thursday’s match due to his shoulder strain, Munaweera could well open the innings alongside Niroshan Dickwella. If Gunathilaka does not recover in time, however, Sri Lanka may find themselves one batsman short, and may have to field Thisara Perera in the lower middle order.Sri Lanka (possible): 1 Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 2 Danushka Gunathilaka/Dilshan Munaweera, 3 Kusal Mendis, 4 Lahiru Thirimanne, 5 Angelo Mathews, 6 Milinda Siriwardana 7 Thisara Perera 8 Akila Dananjaya, 9 Dushmantha Chameera, 10 Vishwa Fernando, 11 Lasith Malinga (capt.)Batsman Manish Pandey, left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav and seamer Shardul Thakur may all have an opportunity in this match, with Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar the most likely to make way.India (possible): 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Virat Kohli (capt.), 4 KL Rahul, 5 Manish Pandey, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Shardul Thakur, 11 Jasprit BumrahPitch and conditionsThere was a little grass on the Khettarama surface on the eve of the match, which suggests there will be a little more pace and carry than is ordinarily seen at this venue. There is a chance afternoon and evening showers will interrupt play.Stats and trivia Lasith Malinga needs one more wicket to reach 300 ODI dismissals. He will be 13th bowler overall, and the fourth Sri Lankan after Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas and Sanath Jayasuriya, to the milestone. This will also be MS Dhoni’s 300th ODI. He will be the 20th cricketer overall, and the sixth India player to the milestone. His ODI match tally also includes three matches for Asia XI in 2007. Dhoni is also on 99 stumpings and needs just one more to become the most prolific ODI stumper, moving clear ahead of Kumar Sangakkara. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy India have won all eight bilateral ODI matches against Sri Lanka. The only occasions Sri Lanka have beaten a Kohli-led India have come at neutral grounds, at multi-team tournaments: once at the Asia Cup, once in a tri-series in the West Indies, and once at the Champions Trophy.Quotes”I feel captaincy is a good challenge for me. At the moment, we have lost a few matches – yes. I have played for the last fourteen years for the national team, and I still feel we have good young players. A few good experienced players also. This is the time we have to stand up and give confidence to young players – to let them know we are still good enough to play international cricket. People think we are not top of the table, but I feel we can change that.”

Nottingham Forest "Admirers" Of £30k-p/w "Phenomenon"

Nottingham Forest are “long-term admirers” of Southampton striker Che Adams, but a reliable journalist has revealed that another club are the first to submit an official bid.

Where does Che Adams come from?

Adams was originally born in Leicester but has been on the south coast since 2019 having moved there from Birmingham City. He’s since gone on to make 147 senior appearances, but after dropping down to the second tier, there’s a possibility he could be set to depart.

The Scotland international’s contract is set to expire in less than a year meaning that now is Russell Martin’s final opportunity to cash in should he not want to risk losing last season’s second-highest goalscorer for free, and he’s already got a potential suitor waiting for him in Steve Cooper, though it’s not the first time he’s been credited with an interest.

Back in August 2022, Football Insider reported that the Reds had opened talks to sign the 27-year-old centre-forward, and whilst a deal obviously failed to materialise at the time, Evangelos Marinakis looks set to be willing to take a second bite of the cherry with the hope of successfully bringing his target back to the Premier League.

Are Nottingham Forest signing Che Adams?

Taking to Twitter X, The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed that Nottingham Forest have been keeping tabs on Adams for a while, but admitted that they are set to face stiff competition this summer with Bournemouth, who have already tabled an offer. He wrote:

“Southampton striker Che Adams subject to approach from Bournemouth (approx £13m) and there has been interest in structured deal from Everton. Nottingham Forest long-term admirers of Scotland international #SaintsFC #AFCB #EFC #NFFC More on @TeleFootball.”

Southampton striker Che Adams.

How many goals has Che Adams scored?

Across all competitions last season, Adams racked up 13 goal contributions (ten goals and three assists) in 35 appearances which shows just how prolific he can be in the final third, therefore it would be a huge boost for Cooper should he sign the striker up at Nottingham Forest.

The St. Mary’s “phenomenon”, as dubbed by his former manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, also recorded 47 shots over the course of the previous campaign which was higher than any other of his fellow teammates, via FBRef, not to mention that he’s an ideal target man having averaged 2.2 aerial wins per top-flight game.

Furthermore, the £30k-per-week earner would provide the boss with wonderful versatility having operated everywhere across the frontline and even as an attacking midfielder since the start of his career, as per Transfermarkt, making him a great option to have in the building should any injury cover be needed in a role that isn't his natural one.

Finally, Adams shares the same agent, Unique Sports Group, as Brennan Johnson, so this existing connection that his representative already has to the club could potentially give the hierarchy a small advantage should they decide to try and push to get a deal over the line ahead of their fellow competitors in the final weeks of the window.
