Leeds Could Find "High Quality" £20m Firpo Replacement

With Daniel Farke having been handed the reins for the foreseeable future at Leeds United, the 46-year-old will likely be keen to get to work quickly in order to revive the fortunes of the ailing Elland Road outfit.

The German tactician will inherit a squad that distinctly underwhelmed and underperformed last term having endured a dismal relegation to the Championship, with heads needing to roll if the Whites are to have any hope of sealing a swift return to the top flight.

Among those who the former Norwich City boss should be looking to move on is floundering full-back, Junior Firpo, with the struggling dud having failed to make the grade after joining from Barcelona on a £13m deal back in 2021.

As journalist Dean Jones recently noted, the 26-year-old has "had some difficulties in the Premier League" over the past two seasons, with pundit Paddy Kenny stating in 2022 that the defender "doesn’t have much defensive awareness and his positioning is poor."

Also described as looking "flat-footed or fast asleep" at times by Kenny, the left-back has made "high profile and costly" errors during his time in Yorkshire, according to Jones, having proven himself something of a "liability" in the backline.

The end of Firpo's Leeds nightmare may be in sight, however, with Fabrizio Romano having reported last month that the former Spain U21 international is looking to leave the club, with further reports indicating that a handful of La Liga sides are interested in a deal.

Junior Firpo

Farke could then move to hasten that exit amid a recent report from the Daily Mail which claimed that the club have 'checked on' a possible left-back replacement in the form of AZ Alkmaar's, Milos Kerkez, with the 19-year-old valued at around £20m by the Eredivisie side.

While the piece does suggest that it is AFC Bournemouth who are currently in talks to sign the teenager, it would be wise for Leeds to try and get to the front of the queue in order to solve their full-back woes.

Who is Milos Kerkez?

Described as a "high quality attacking full-back" by talent scout, Jacek Kulig, the eight-cap Hungarian international would seemingly represent a dream upgrade on the left of the defence, having sparkled in the Netherlands in recent times.

While the Serbian-born starlet was unable to make his mark at former club AC Milan – whom he left last year after failing to make a single first-team appearance – his quality has been on show in his current home, having registered five goals and seven assists in 52 games in all competitions in the 2022/23 season.

That record is in stark contrast to what Firpo achieved last term as the £60k-per-week man registered only two goals and two assists in 26 games across all fronts, having been unable to pose a real threat in an attacking sense.

Equally, Kerkez also represents a potentially superior defensive asset having won 60% of his ground duels last season as well as 57% of his total duels, again representing a far greater record than the current Leeds man (49% and 50% for the same two metrics, respectively).

Firpo's woes were also laid bare by the fact that he recorded an average match rating of just 6.55 in 22/23, as per Sofascore, to see him rank 22nd among his teammates, while Kerkez, by contrast, had an average rating of 6.99 – further proof of his impressive recent form.

With the youngster also the type of player that can be a mainstay of the Whites' defence for the long term due to his relative youth, it should be a no-brainer for Leeds to firm up their interest in the 5 foot 11 sensation, with such a deal potentially allowing Farke to send Firpo packing sooner rather than later.

Arsenal Could Sign ‘Sensational’ £68m Rice Partner

Arsenal are reportedly set to be handed a boost in their pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni, as Mikel Arteta aims to revamp his midfield this summer.

The Spaniard is imminently set to announce the signing of Declan Rice in a record-breaking deal worth £105m, however, now that Granit Xhaka has departed, there could be room for more firepower in the middle of the park.

Did Arsenal bid for Aurelien Tchouameni?

In the past few weeks, it has been rumoured that Arsenal are interested in Real Madrid ace Tchouameni, with Football Transfers reporting that the Gunners ‘will reignite’ their interest in the Frenchman if other targets fail.

The deal looked unlikely with the club spending over £100m on Rice, however, an update from the Express, via reports in Spain, has revealed that the north Londoners could capture the 23-year-old at a lower price than anticipated.

The report claims that Real Madrid are active in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, with news speculating that Los Blancos could sell the likes of Tchouameni or Federico Valverde to free up funds for the PSG star.

Indeed, journalist Juan Ignacio G-Ochoa revealed that Madrid could allow either of the midfielders to depart for a price in the range of £68m-£85m, giving Arsenal a potentially golden chance to make another signing.

Could Aurelien Tchouameni be a good fit for Arsenal?

Lauded as “sensational” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, the Frenchman would be an emphatic addition for Arteta to integrate into his midfield.

At just 23, the midfielder has cemented himself as a valuable member of both Real Madrid and the France national team, earning 25 caps for his country.

With Rice’s arrival imminent, exploring the possibility of signing Tchouameni could take Arsenal to the next level, with a player that could encourage the West Ham captain to reach his best form in north London.

Declan Rice

As per FBref, the Real Madrid star sat in the top 1% in Europe’s top five leagues regarding his pass completion, flexing a 92.9% success rate per 90 over the past year.

A similar level was applicable to his rate of defensive work too, averaging 1.98 interceptions per 90, a figure that ranked him in the top 1% of the continent's top five leagues also.

Having a player with such composure in the engine room could allow Rice to explore more advanced areas of his game, while having a trusted anchor in a pivot with him to mediate the transition between defence and attack.

The Englishman has been tipped by writer Henry Winter to take his ‘final-third game’ to the next level at Arsenal, after showing glimpses of what he can do further up the field in claret and blue.

While acting as a prominent figure in deep midfield, the 24-year-old is versatile in his approach to play, as highlighted by his 2.75 shot-creating actions and 1.02 key passes per 90, via FBref.

A confident hitter of the ball and creative distributor, Arteta could see Rice thrive in a slightly more advanced role, which could be made possible by signing the defensive talent of Tchouameni.

The Frenchman is a player capable of holding the fort, in a pivot that could allow the Englishman to develop other areas of his game that truly take him to unplayable levels.

With the 23-year-old reportedly available at the right price this summer, Arteta could inspire his side with a complete upgrade in the middle of the park.

Marcus Rashford goal record vs Tottenham

Marcus Rashford exploded last season, cementing himself as one of the most dangerous goalscorers in the Premier League.

Manchester United will certainly hope he can lead them to glory this season – hence his new five-year contract.

Other top clubs will hope to stop him, of course, and one of those is Tottenham Hotspur. They'll try to compete with United once again this season and will come up against Rashford and co. on 19th August.

So how well does Rashford usually fare against them? Football FanCast takes a dive into the numbers to find out.

What is Marcus Rashford's goal record against Tottenham?

Rashford has played 14 times against Spurs and it took him a while to find his feet against them. The forward didn't manage to score in any of his first four appearances, but has since gone on to be a bit of a thorn in the Lilywhites' sides.

He currently sits on five goals in 14 games, with all of them coming within 13 Premier League fixtures. Since his first goal against them, that record stands at five in nine.

What is Marcus Rashford's assist record against Tottenham?

Rashford certainly isn't known for his assists as much as his goals. There are 16 teams against which he's managed more than just a solitary assist, though – a fairly decent record for a prolific goalscorer.

Though, Tottenham aren't one of them. Rashford has just one assist in his 14 games and it actually came in his most recent outing against Spurs. He scored one and assisted another in the Red Devils' 2-2 draw in north London back in April.

What is Marcus Rashford's head-to-head record against Tottenham?

It's very good, actually – and surprisingly so, as United haven't always been comfortably better than Spurs since Rashford broke into the senior setup. But in 14 games against Tottenham, he's been on the winning side nine times. Spurs have won three, with two ending in draws. It's worth noting that one of those wins was in the FA Cup.

That record looks even better in recent times. Since 2019, Rashford has faced Spurs nine times and won seven, losing and drawing one apiece.

What is Marcus Rashford's away goal record against Tottenham?

Manchester United'sMarcusRashford

Rashford has played away at Tottenham seven times in his career. Worryingly for Spurs ahead of their August clash, it's also the ground on which he's done the most damage in this fixture.

The England star has three of his five goals against Tottenham away from home, plus that assist he picked up last season. He's also avoided defeat in his last five trips – a bad omen for Spurs.

Who has Marcus Rashford scored the most against?

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

There are three teams against whom Rashford has more goals than his five in Spurs matches. There are then a further five who have also conceded five times to United's star.

Leicester City are his most common victim, conceding eight times in 16 appearances against Rashford. Then come Chelsea and Liverpool at six goals each in 17 and 15 games respectively.

West Ham, Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle and Bournemouth all sit alongside Tottenham as having conceded five. It's worth mentioning that Rashford's overall record against Newcastle might be his best against any club: 11 games, five goals, five assists.

How many goals does Marcus Rashford have in August?

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

August isn't a particularly happy hunting month for Rashford as his record in the first month of the season isn't what you would call special. Indeed, he's only got five August strikes throughout his eight-season career. That does, however, include a brace against Chelsea in 2019 and a goal against Liverpool last year.

It's also worth mentioning that the 2020/21 campaign didn't have any games played in August as the season instead kicked off in September. Rashford did grab two goals in the opening month that year, so perhaps it's a little fairer to include those in his 'August' tally.

How many winning goals does Marcus Rashford have?

manchester-united-marcus-rashford-aston-villa-de-gea-ten-hag

Rashford has a whopping 45 game-winning goals in his career so far. In fact, he managed 16 last season – an incredible number which actually accounted for over half of his goals.

Two of those game-winners have come against Tottenham, too, so they know full well how dangerous he can be. Indeed, he notched in back-to-back league games against the north Londoners with winners at either end of 2019 – the latter of which was an Old Trafford brace in a 2-1 win to inflict a first defeat at Spurs for Jose Mourinho.

What is Marcus Rashford's overall goal record for Man United?

Man Unites starMarcusRashford

Rashford has now played 359 games for United – doesn't time fly? He's managed to score a very respectable 123 goals in that time, which is a goal-to-game ratio of around 0.34.

But that will only go up with time as Rashford continues to improve. Last season was his best yet – and this coming campaign could well prove to be even better.

What is Marcus Rashford's Premier League record?

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane andCasemiro

Rashford now has 76 Premier League goals, coming in 239 appearances in England's top flight. That's enough to sit in 60th on the all-time Premier League top scorers list.

But he won't be stopping there. A season like last time out could even see him climb into the top 40 – and who's to say he won't better what he managed in 2022/23?

What is Marcus Rashford's assist record?

Now, different places credit assists in different ways, so the exact number of assists for Rashford is debatable. We'll just focus on how the Premier League credits them.

And with that in mind, Rashford has 37 assists in his league career. That's good enough for 92nd all-time in the Premier League – level with Manchester United greats Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Cristiano Ronaldo. He'll move past both shortly – perhaps even before their trip to Spurs.

How many goals did Marcus Rashford score last season?

Last season was the finest of Rashford's career as he cemented himself as an elite forward. He scored an incredible 30 goals in all competitions, coming in just 56 games.

That was the best haul of his career to date and marked an extraordinary jump on the previous campaign. 2021/22 saw Rashford manage just five goals, which was even fewer than the eight he managed in his debut season as a teenager.

22 had been his previous highest, but now 30 is the figure to beat in all competitions.

That boiled down to 17 Premier League goals in 35 appearances. It's a fine record in a team that was still finding itself under Erik ten Hag and matched his previous best in the competition.

But with things looking a little more settled now, Rashford will want to go even better this time around. That 20-goal barrier just has to be his target.

What is Man United's record against Tottenham?

United's record is fantastic against just about every team in the country. It's no different against Spurs, either, in their 199 fixtures against one another.

That's right, we're coming up on the 200th meeting between United and Tottenham. So far, the Red Devils have triumphed on nearly half of the occasions – 96 times, to be exact.

Spurs have 53 to their credit, with the spoils shared 50 times.

But what about the Premier League? Since the rebrand in 1992, the two sides have met 62 times in the league. United have utterly dominated proceedings, though, winning on 39 occasions. That included a spell from 2001 to 2012 without tasting defeat once.

Spurs have managed just 10 wins in that time, with the majority of those coming since January 2014. There's a long way to go to claw things back and level things up…

What are Man United's recent results against Tottenham?

Harry Kane and Bruno Fernandes competing in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.

Very, very good. Spurs have consistently struggled against United historically, but did enjoy a decent spell within the last decade or so.

But that's changed more recently. United are undefeated in the last five meetings, winning four before drawing the most recent encounter. That finished 2-2, with Rashford scoring one and assisting another.

Before that result, United won 2-0 and 3-2 at home, with 3-0 and 3-1 away wins prior to that. So when did Spurs last win against them?

You'll remember it – the 6-1 thrashing at Old Trafford. United have fought back in style after that embarrassment. As for the last time Spurs beat United in north London, you have to return to 2018 and a 2-0 win at Wembley Stadium. Christian Eriksen, now with United, scored the opener before a Phil Jones own goal sealed it.

When is Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United?

Man United boss Erik ten Hag

This latest clash between the two teams will take place on Saturday, 19th August at 5.30pm UK time. It'll be the second Saturday Night Football of the season and is just five days after United's opener against Wolves.

It'll be interesting to see how that affects things – as well as how the two teams line up. Neither team can be sure of who they will and won't have as the transfer window continues to intrigue.

Will Harry Kane be at Spurs? Will United have their new striker? And where will Harry Maguire be playing?

What we do know is that Rashford will almost certainly feature for United, barring an injury. His new five-year contract sets him up to be the star man at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future and it's a role he'll almost certainly thrive in.

Perhaps he'll be the difference once more as these two sides seek early statements in the top-four race.

Foakes extends Kent's one-day gloom

Ben Foakes added to his growing reputation with a highly-responsible 82 not out as Surrey kept alive their hopes of reaching the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals

Ben Foakes added to his growing reputation with a highly-responsible 82 not out as Surrey kept alive their hopes of reaching the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals by beating Kent Spitfires by 44 runs at the Kia Oval. The 24-year-old Foakes, who hit a six and six fours from 80 balls, was joined in a sixth wicket stand of 79 in 11 overs by Sam Curran as Surrey rallied from 141 for 5 to reach 251 for 7 in an innings reduced to 41 overs by a delayed start and then two further rain interruptions. In reply Kent could reach only 204 all out from 35.4 overs as they chased a Duckworth-Lewis adjusted target of 249, despite 69 from 65 balls from Sam Billings in his first appearance for the county this season following stints in the Indian Premier League and in England’s short one-day international series against Ireland.Kent lost Daniel Bell-Drummond early, for 11, when he missed a hoick at Tom Curran, but Joe Denly played well for a 40-ball 34 before inside-edging into his stumps an attempted drive at Ravi Rampaul.Sam Northeast put on 38 with Billings but was then run out for 17 when his partner refused a short single into the offside; Darren Stevens was leg-before for 5 to what looked to be a Scott Borthwick googly; and Alex Blake briefly glittered with three fours in a quickfire 22 before mishitting Sam Curran to mid on.The same bowler castled Calum Haggett and, at 170 for 6 with ten overs left, Kent’s hopes rested with Billings and the tail. Those hopes were extinguished when Sam Curran went around the wicket to have Billings caught on the pull by his brother Tom at long leg. Billings had struck three sixes and two fours but his dismissal was symptomatic of Kent’s profligate batting and they sit at the bottom of the South Group with just one win from six matches. The end came soon afterwards with James Tredwell and Charlie Hartley removed for ducks and Matt Coles last out for a jaunty 25. Stuart Meaker, who had Coles caught behind hooking at a bouncer, finished with 4 for 37 and he and Sam Curran (3 for 43) were the pick of Surrey’s attack.Sixteen runs had come from the first over of the match, with Jason Roy plundering three high-class boundaries off Coles after edging the paceman’s second ball just wide of a diving Tredwell at second slip. A clip through mid wicket, a back foot cover drive and a thundering pull were all despatched to the ropes with withering power and a huge total on a fine pitch looked certain.Coles, however, hit back to concede just 12 runs from his next four new ball overs – an excellent effort – and Haggett, though expensive, snapped up the wicket of Mark Stoneman for 10 with a fine ball, brilliantly held by keeper Billings as he flung himself in front of slip. The first of two rain interruptions came with Surrey on 58 for 1 off 7.4 overs and, by the time of the second, they were struggling at 115 from 20.2 with Stevens snaring both Kumar Sangakkara and Rory Burns in a typically canny spell of medium pace from the Vauxhall End.Roy had also by then fallen for a 44-ball 44, caught at deep square leg off Ivan Thomas after failing to kick on from his flying start while both Sangakkara and Burns found it difficult to find fluency against the accurate Stevens and also a steady six-over spell by Thomas.Hartley and Tredwell also began tightly but, after Borthwick had chipped Hartley’s whippy fast-medium to short mid wicket, a Surrey rally was launched by the in-form Foakes. The right-handed keeper-batsman found a busy partner in Sam Curran and the sixth wicket pair added 79 in 11 overs to revive the innings. Foakes reached his fifty from 57 balls, with successive fours off Hartley, and the younger Curran brother drove Haggett and Tredwell for sixes to long off and long on respectively before, on 39 from 37 balls, edging the returning Coles to Billings who completed the catch at the second attempt.Thomas removed Tom Curran in the closing overs but was also pulled superbly for six by Foakes as Surrey eventually hauled themselves past the 250 mark in what had been a stop-start innings, and not just because of the weather. Most of Surrey’s innings was watched by 5,000 local schoolchildren, enthusiastically attending as part of the club’s annual Schools Day, but by the time Kent replied in warm afternoon sunshine they had long gone.

Fletcher on mend after horrific blow to the head

Nottinghamshire’s seam bowler, Luke Fletcher, was taken to hospital after he was struck on the head in a serious-looking incident at Edgbaston, with the T20 Blast match against Birmingham Bears suspended while he received treatment

Nottinghamshire seam bowler Luke Fletcher was struck on the head in a horrific incident at Edgbaston, with the NatWest T20 Blast match against Birmingham Bears suspended for half-an-hour while he received treatment. The fast-bowler was taken to hospital in an ambulance after he suffered the injury in the fourth over of Birmingham’s reply to Nottinghamshire’s 158 for six. Play eventually resumed with Birmingham stealing a six-wicket victory with a single on the final ball when Notts missed a run-out chance – although concern over Fletcher oversahadowed the chase.Fletcher’s first ball of the night, at the start of the fourth over with the score 30 for 0, was driven ferociously straight back by Sam Hain and struck him on the head in his follow-through.The umpire signalled instantly for medical assistance, and it was clear from the reaction of the players that they felt the incident was potentially very serious. Fletcher was concussed, but he did not lose consciousness and he was able to walk from the field aided by a physio with a towel over his head.He was attended to by paramedics in the dressing-room, and was taken to a Nottingham hospital for further examination. His team-mate, Jake Ball, later tweeted a picture of Fletcher, wearing an oxygen mask but with his thumbs up, adding: “Horrible injury to @fletcherluke but looks like he’s doing well off to hospital #legend” One of the most popular players in county cricket, Fletcher was given the warmest of ovations from the 9,000 crowd and, typically, waved in acknowledgement. But with the players visibly concerned, the decision was taken to temporarily halt the game.He later tweeted from hospital that it was time for some paracetamol.Notts Outlaws head coach Peter Moores said after the match: “Luke has obviously got concussion but the reports we’re hearing back are that they think he’s going to be fine and hopefully he will go home either tonight or tomorrow morning. It sounds good news at the moment and we’re looking forward to catching up with him when he’s back and hopefully OK.”Warwickshire were very understanding and, more importantly, efficient. They had a doctor on site straight away and the paramedics here. Credit too to James Pipe, our physio, he is meticulous in all trauma-related stuff as is Warwickshire’s physio, and they worked together straight away.”It’s nice to see that at any sporting venue, that everything is in place should something like that happen.”The increased threat to bowlers and umpires during a Twenty20 age in which power hitting has become the norm has led to some umpires considering protective headgear to guard against injury. After half an hour, it was agreed to resume and the Notts players were warmly applauded back on to the field. They fought brilliantly to defend their below-par total and almost succeeded before ultimately dropping their second game in 24 hours to begin this year’s campaign, but most thoughts were with Fletcher who lifted spirits with his thumbs-up signal to a camera from the back of the ambulance.Put in, Notts had been troubled by the spin of Jeetan Patel (4-0-22-4) but recovered from 28 for three to total 158 thanks principally to Samit Patel’s classy 55 and Steven Mullaney’s 46.The Bears’ ploy to open the bowling with Patel paid off as he took three wickets in his first 11 balls; Michael Lumb brilliantly caught by William Porterfield at mid-wicket, and Alex Hales and Rikki Wessels, pouched at cow corner by Hain.Patel then underpinned a recovery, adding 51 in 45 balls with Dan Christian (20, 27 balls) and 68 in 39 balls with Mullaney.Birmingham started strongly as Ian Bell and Hain took 30 from three overs before the game was halted in light of Fletcher’s injury. After the resumption, Hain soon sliced Harry Gurney to point and Porterfield ran himself out before Bell (47, 38 balls, five fours) lifted a reverse-sweep at Patel to Lumb at short third man.Birmingham required 40 from the last five overs and Grant Elliott and Rikki Clarke took 15 off the first of them. Elliott’s 38 (22 balls, four fours, one six) saw his side to the brink of a victory but Notts dug deep.Five runs from the last over, bowled by Christian, came down to one from the last ball, from which Colin De Grandhomme and Clarke scrambled the relevant single. But Notts should have claimed a tie as a relay from extra cover was fumbled by Michael Lumb standing over the non-striker’s stumps.

Nottingham Forest: Exciting deal may "accelerate" amid "talks"

Nottingham Forest are keen on Dean Henderson and a move back to the City Ground for the England international may now 'accelerate' due to Manchester United capturing Andre Onana, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Dean Henderson coming back to Nottingham Forest?

According to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter X, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United are in talks over a deal that would see Henderson move back to the Tricky Trees.

Galetti stated: "Following the signing of Onana, the talks between Nottingham Forest and Man Utd for Dean Henderson are progressing with confidence. Personal terms already agreed, it's up to clubs. MUTD targeted Zion Suzuki (Urawa) as the new possible 2nd GK."

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has also taken to the social media platform to reveal that Nottingham Forest have submitted a 'loan deal proposal' for Henderson rather than a permanent arrangement.

Last term, £100k-a-week ace earner Henderson featured 20 times for Nottingham Forest in all competitions and managed to keep six clean sheets in the process, as per Transfermarkt.

Sky Sports News understand that talks between Henderson and Nottingham Forest are 'progressing' smoothly and it is expected that the England international will move in the same direction as Anthony Elanga, who has recently joined Steve Cooper's men for an undisclosed fee.

Nottingham Forest moved to acquire Nigeria international Ola Aina on a free transfer last weekend as their summer recruitment starts to take shape in the East Midlands.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sky Sports journalist Sheth has indicated that talks over Henderson could be set to 'accelerate' in the near future.

Sheth stated: "Erik ten Hag always wanted to bring in Onana. Now Onana has come in, I think that will then maybe accelerate a potential move for Dean Henderson to go to Nottingham Forest.

"Nottingham Forest are definitely still interested. They are in talks over what we believe to be a loan deal at the moment.

"Dean Henderson is still with Manchester United on their US tour. He will stay with Manchester United on the US tour until that deal is agreed between the two clubs, and then he'll be given permission to travel back to the UK and resume those talks with Nottingham Forest."

What other business could Nottingham Forest conduct this window?

Nottingham Forest manager Cooper will be hoping to add some extra steel to his side as he looks to build on their successful survival mission in the Premier League last campaign.

According to The Daily Mail, Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi is a target to come into the engine room at the City Ground potentially; however, the Foxes are believed to want £20 million for the enforcer before sanctioning an exit from the King Power Stadium.
